Description
Guns N’ Roses before the release of ‘Use Your Illusion’, with Izzy Stradlin still in the band. This iconic soundboard recording has been polished up and is now available as a top-of-the-line 2CD set, meticulously remastered. This release captures the “Noblesville concert on May 29, 1991,” a full show recorded in stereo soundboard format. While the band had gained new members in Dizzy Reed and Matt Sorum, what’s most important is being able to enjoy the best ensemble – “Izzy included / without the horn section” – in superb soundboard quality. Since this is a good opportunity, let’s first take a look at the overview of their activities during this turbulent period. 1990: February: Dizzy Reed joins; April 7: Performed at Farm Aid; June: Steven leaves → Matt Sorum joins; November 9: RIP Magazine Party. 1991: January 20 + 23: ROCK IN RIO II (2 shows); May 9-16: Warm-up (3 shows) ← *Official LIVE IN NEW YORK; May 24 – August 3: North America #1 (37 shows) ← ★Here★; August 13-31: Europe (7 shows) ← *STOCKHOLM. 1991 1ST NIGHT: September 17 “USE YOUR ILLUSION” Release of “I&II”》《November: Izzy leaves → 13-member lineup including horns》・December 5th-31st: North America #2 (9 shows) The highest quality master still holding the throne of official quality This was the turbulent year of 1990/1991. When thinking of the early stages of the “USE YOUR ILLUSION Tour,” Rock in Rio II, where it was unveiled, and the Ritz performance, which was officially released in the deluxe edition, come to mind, but the Noblesville performance on this release was the fourth show of “North America #1,” when the warm-up was over and the real tour was finally underway. This show has long been known from its TV broadcast, but it wasn’t until 2022 that the highest quality master was unearthed. The whole world was shaken by the appearance of the new master, which includes scenes that were cut from the TV broadcast, such as member introductions and drum solos. However, what was even more shocking was the sound itself that permeates the entire performance. Not only is it in stereo, but the sound quality itself has improved dramatically, making it a superb soundboard recording that is indistinguishable from the official “LIVE IN NEW YORK” when compared side-by-side. The meticulous mastering has pushed it to the pinnacle. This release is the highest-level updated version, with “GRAF ZEPPELIN” refining that shocking soundboard recording. While it’s not a completely different product compared to the already highly polished previous release, there’s no doubt that it has reached a new peak. Throughout the entire recording, there is no pitch/phase deviation down to 1/1000th of a second, and the balance has been adjusted after frequency band analysis. The high and low frequencies, which were somewhat spoiled, have also been enhanced, reproducing the original sound as precisely as possible. Furthermore, the treatment of various noises has also been made more precise. A noticeable example is the fill-in part after “It’s So Easy.” In the new master, about 20 seconds of space between songs was cut, but we have independently filled it in using the original television broadcast version. The previous version also had similar corrections, but this time the hum noise has been carefully removed, resulting in such a natural finish that you wouldn’t even notice the change unless someone pointed it out. Of course, this is only about 20 seconds of non-performance parts, but this “high level of precision” that doesn’t overlook even such small details is the essence of this work. A treasure trove of exclusive tracks that can only be heard on the eve of release This superb master captures a full show packed with rare tracks that could only be realized before the album’s release. Let’s organize it here by comparing it with the official ‘LIVE IN NEW YORK’. Use Your Illusion (11 songs) – I: Right Next Door To Hell (★) / Bad Obsession (★) / Dust N’ Bones (★) / Double Talkin’ Jive / Live And Let Die / November Rain (*) / Perfect Crime (★*) – II: Civil War / 14 Years (*) / Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door / Estranged Others (7 songs + α) – Appetite for Destruction: Mr. Brownstone / It’s So Easy (*) / Rocket Queen (*) / Sweet Child O’Mine / Welcome To The Jungle / Paradise City – Others: Patience / Speak Softly Love (Love Theme From The Godfather) *Note: “★” indicates songs only performed in the 90s. “*” indicates songs not heard on the official ‘LIVE IN NEW YORK’. What stands out is the group of songs only performed in the 90s. The band performed “Right Next Door To Hell,” a rare track only released before the album’s launch, and “14 Years,” which had been kept under wraps until 2012. The opportunity to hear both “Dust N’ Bones” and “14 Years,” both featuring Izzy on lead vocals, is a unique treat of this period. Particularly noteworthy is “November Rain.” This performance captures the historic moment of its world premiere, and having warmed up, the band’s performance is a step above that of “LIVE IN NEW YORK.” The set, packed with new songs, is intensely fresh, yet the solid five-piece lineup fully showcases the “true GNR” sound. Only the highest peaks can surpass the highest peaks. This is a top-tier updated version, polished with the meticulous mastering of “GRAF ZEPPELIN,” based on the groundbreaking master that took the world by storm four years ago. Guns N’ Roses, evolving into a colossal monster, hadn’t yet lost their way thanks to Izzy Stradlin. This historical soundboard album captures, in a sense, their most delicious era, imprinting it firmly in your mind. A stereo soundboard recording of their May 29, 1991 Noblesville concert, before Izzy Stradlin’s departure. This is a top-of-the-line, updated version polished by “GRAF ZEPPELIN” from a superior stereo master that differs from the TV broadcast. The sound from that time has been reproduced with as much precision as possible, and the scenes that were previously filled in are so natural that you won’t even notice the changes. This is an absolute must-have, as it pours the delicious full show, including the precious “Right Next Door To Hell” and “14 Years,” into your brain.
