Description

GRETA VAN FLEET is a major newcomer who is attracting attention from all over the world as the “future of rock” and “modern LED ZEPPELIN.” The other day, their memorable first performance in Japan ended. Is the ability that the world is making a fuss about real? Are they future legends, or are they just another fake band that has been thrown away in the past? A super-excellent live album that reports on the scene will be urgently released. This work includes “January 22, 2019 Zepp Osaka Bayside performance”. First of all, let’s check the show’s position from the schedule of the first visit to Japan, which has attracted rare attention in recent years. ・January 22: Zepp Osaka Bayside [This work] – January 23 [Movement date] – January 24: Zepp DiverCity Tokyo ・January 25: Shinkiba STUDIO COAST That’s it, once in Osaka + twice in Tokyo All 3 performances. Among them, the Osaka performance of this work is Lee’s first day. It is a live album that records the scene where they and Japan met for the first time. It is truly a unique moment, but the sound is also super exquisite. This is the original master for this work by Mr. “West Japan’s Strongest Taper”, who is familiar to us at our store, but to be honest, it is a transcendental recording that is the best masterpiece in his collection. Until now, each new release has been praised as “like a soundboard” and “better sound than the actual scene”, but the evolution has become even more striking in 2019. Close contact with zero sense of distance, close synchronization with zero cheers, clear and vivid detail… all on par with a sound board directly connected to a desk. Still, the microscopic venue acoustics give the sound a sense of reality and luster. That sound should no longer be talked about at the level of audience recording, and its natural reality cannot be found on FM broadcasts or official live albums. The long history of recording is also the history of “how to get close to the sound board”, and the challenge has been to “can it be used as an official substitute” for recording that goes beyond that. The sound of this work exceeds even those two standards, reaching the dimension of “a sound world that can only be achieved by the latest audience.” It is truly the future of customer records, the cutting-edge sound of 2019. I was struck by the shocking sound, but I want to repeat the same description of the show drawn with that sound. The set consisted of four songs from the debut EP “BLACK SMOKE RISING”, which is already becoming a legend, and the first album “ANTHEM OF THE PEACEFUL ARMY”, as well as “Edge of Darkness” from “FROM THE FIRES” and the new song “Black”. Flag Exposition”, a composition that involves two cover songs. “Black Flag Exposition” is said to be a cover of Melanie Sofica’s “Lay Down (Candles in the Rain),” but it seems like a new song based on that song. In the first place, Melanie was far away from being a newcomer when I first noticed her, but the cover of the two songs was also very intense. John Denver’s “The Music Is You” and Howlin’ Wolf’s “Evil.” If Denver and Wolf are cool, then the songs they choose are too cool (in addition, the opening sound effects were David Ruffin’s “My Whole World Ended” from 1969). It’s hard to believe that this band lives in 2019 with an average age of 20.75 years old. What makes it even more incredible is the performance. amazing. Too wonderful. At the beginning, they play “Highway Tune”, “Edge of Darkness”, and “Flower Power”, but this jams endlessly. Even after about 30 minutes had passed since the start of the show, they had only played three songs. Moreover, this jam is not at all dull. Each phrase and each shout was frighteningly hot, and by repeating them over and over again, the temperature in the venue heated up rapidly. Moreover, it’s not just about momentum. Unlike the straight-line rush of punk and metal, the sound evokes emotion, and deep passion gives power to the melody. Their deep musical tastes are by no means a pose, but are definitely their blood and flesh. His youthful (or more specifically, kid-like) appearance is a far cry from his authentic performance. At first, I thought, “Isn’t this Gap Moe?”, but when you listen to this live album with only sound, the gap disappears, and the rock legacy that flows beneath your young skin becomes exposed. In fact, youth can only be seen in the pureness that is shamelessly exposed. I deliberately avoided comparison with LED ZEPPELIN here. It is true that there are many superficial similarities, and there will certainly be great demand as a replacement for ZEP. However, the most similar thing may be “depth” rather than voice or phrase. Only God knows whether they will become the “next generation ZEP” or “KINGDOM COME 30 years late.” However, there is also a strong possibility of the former, or of opening up a completely different horizon. This work has recorded such a first visit to Japan with the most advanced and super-excellent sound. This is a live album that goes beyond simply being the fastest report on a popular band and may become the “928” and “929” of the future.
