Description
GONG in 1975, which lost its founder and changed significantly while completing the “Radio Gnome Invisible Trilogy”. Steve Hillage took the lead, and Dave Stewart, who left after only one week, is here with a soundboard album that allows you to enjoy a precious stage. This work records the “La Celle-Saint-Cloud performance on June 8, 1975”. It is a stereo soundboard recording. GONG has such a complicated history that it makes you want to call it a community rather than a band, but the biggest incident of all is the departure of founder David Allen. That is why the details of 1975 are very important. Let’s look back on their journey once again and check the position of the show.・February 15th + 16th: West Germany (2 performances) ・March 20th – 22nd: Belgium (3 performances) ・April 9th + 10th: UK #1a (2 performances) {April 10th David Allen leaves the band / April 11th “FISH RISING” released} ・April 11th – May 11th: UK #1b (22 performances) ・May 22nd – June 28th: Europe (23 performances) ←★Here★ ・August 9th – 23rd: UK #2 (8 performances) ・August 27th – 31st: Netherlands (3 performances) ・September 6th – 10th: UK #3 (4 performances) ←※GONG LIVE ETC. ・November 8th – December 21st: UK #4 (17 performances) ←※SHERWOOD FOREST ’75 {December “SHAMAL” produced} This is GONG in 1975. After releasing the historic masterpiece “YOU” in October of the previous year, they toured continental Europe. In April 1975, they finally toured the UK, but Allen left after just the first day (April 9 in Swansea). The following day, April 10, they hitchhiked home in their stage costumes in the pouring rain. This was coincidentally the day before the release of Steve Hillage’s first solo album “FISH RISING”. After overcoming the UK tour with Hillage at the center, they returned to France and toured. The La Celle-Saint-Cloud performance in this work was the 12th concert of such “Europe” (by the way, “Europe” also had one performance each in Belgium and Italy, but the remaining 21 performances were all in France). Speaking of the 1975 live performance, there are official works such as the D side of “GONG LIVE ETC.” and “LIVE IN SHERWOOD FOREST ’75” (and “GUILDFORD 1975”), but those are autumn shows that were approaching the “SHAMAL” system. In contrast, this work was about two months after Allen left. This work recorded at that show is a magnificent vintage soundboard. It’s not as good as the official “LIVE IN SHERWOOD FOREST ’75”, but there is no deterioration such as noise or roughness, and the thick feeling and super clear details unique to the soundboard are poured directly into the brain. And the beautifully separated stereo feeling is also wonderful. Brian Davison, a former member of THE NICE who was only enrolled for half a year at this time, is sitting on a stool, and you can enjoy his virtuosity with vivid panning. It is a show that is drawn with such a sound because it is a turning point. The set is also unique to the transitional period, so let’s organize it here by comparing it with the two official works mentioned above. ・YOU: Master Builder / The Isle of Everywhere ・FISH RISING: Solar Musick Suite (★ *) / Aftaglid (★) ・Others: Cat in Clark’s Shoes (★) / Get It Inner (*) *Note: The “★” mark is a song that cannot be heard in “GONG LIVE ETC.” and the “*” mark is a song that cannot be heard in “LIVE IN SHERWOOD FOREST ’75”. … and so on. This work is not a full show recording, and the last “Get It Inner” ends recording in just under a minute at the beginning. However, all four songs from “YOU” and “FISH RISING” are large songs that last more than 10 minutes, and can be enjoyed on a full scale. The early version of “Cat in Clark’s Shoes”, which is completely different from “SHAMAL”, fades out before the ending, but it is still performed in an 8-minute length that exceeds the album. And, above all, “Solar Musick Suite”. Although it is a shortened arrangement of only “Sun Song / Hiram Afterglid Meets The Dervish”, it is still over 11 minutes. It is a delicious big song that can only be found in this work, which was not possible in “GONG LIVE ETC.” and “LIVE IN SHERWOOD FOREST ’75” when Hillage lost the initiative. GONG in June 1975 inherited Allen’s legacy while also being like Hillage’s solo band. This is a piece where you can enjoy the ensemble when Dave Stewart / Brian Davison were enrolled, which was realized only for a moment in the history of rapid change. Please enjoy the pleasure of Canterbury music, where the heroes’ once-in-a-lifetime encounter is fun. Stereo soundboard recording of “La Celle-Saint-Cloud performance on June 8, 1975”. The freshness without deterioration such as noise and roughness is official excavation grade, and the line’s unique thick feeling and super clear details are poured directly into the brain. At the time, Steve Hillage took the lead in the show, and the rare “Solar Musick Suite” was also performed, and you can enjoy the ensemble with Brian Davison, former member of THE NICE, who left after six months, and Dave Stewart, who was only there for a week.
