Description

“Ken Hensley before URIAH HEEP” and “Greg Lake before KING CRIMSON.” The rare album by THE GODS, a fantastic band featuring some of the greats of the British scene, is set to be released. THE GODS…If you’re into British rock, this was a band you couldn’t avoid. Not only Hensley and Greg, but also Lee Kerslake and Paul Newton, who made their name in the history of URIAH HEEP along with Hensley, Mick Taylor (!) who would join the Stones, John Glasscock of JETHRO TULL fame, etc. It has produced many outstanding talents. This is a legendary band whose name appears in the family tree of various bands. This work is a collection of valuable sound sources that mainly focuses on the BBC live where they appeared, and also focuses on CLIFF BENNETT BAND, TOE FAT, and Hensley before joining URIAH HEEP. Honestly, Hensley’s early career is full of obscure band names, so it’s honestly hard to get a handle on them. First of all, let’s organize it easily and at the same time check the position of this work. Born in 1945, Hensley first appeared on stage in 1960. Then, I formed THE BLUE NOTES with my cousin and others and started our activities. After that, the band changed its name and stepped up to the point of supporting Ben E. King on his UK tour. I will forget the band names during that time (THE BLUE STARS, KEN & THE COUSINS, KIT & THE SARACENS, THE JIMMY BROWN SOUND, etc.), but the important thing is THE GODS, which was formed in 1965. After that, various band names appear, but roughly speaking, we arrive at Mr. Hensley, who we know well, in the flow of “THE GODS → TOE FAT → URIAH HEEP joined”. Now, let’s take a look at the detailed changes in members and check out the heroes that appear in this work. THE GODS Season I (1965-June 1697) Ken Hensley/Mick Taylor/John Glasscock/Brian Glasscock Season II (July 1967-March 1968) Ken Hensley / Joe Konas / Lee Kerslake / Paul Newton Phase III (March-September 1968) Ken Hensley / Joe Konas / Lee Kerslake / Greg Lake Phase IV (September 1968-1969) February: Album “GENESIS” “TO SAMUEL A SON”) Ken Hensley/Joe Cornus/Lee Kerslake/John Glascock TOE FAT predecessor CLIFF BENNETT BAND (March-June 1969) Ken Hensley/ Cliff Bennett/John Glascock/Frank Farley Phase I (June-August 1969: Album “TOE FAT”)★ Ken Hensley/Cliff Bennett/Lee Kerslake/Joe Corna Phase II (August 1969) Ken Hensley/Cliff Bennett/Lee Kerslake/John Glasscock ・Pseudonyms HEAD MACHINE (November-December 1969: Album “ORGASM”) Ken Hensley/Lee Kerslake/John Glasscock Glasscock/Brian Glasscock *Note: Members marked with a ★ are recording the takes included in this work. This is “Hensley before URIAH HEEP”. This work includes BBC live performances (5 songs) of “Third period THE GODS” in which Greg Lake was a member, singles (2 songs) of TOE FAT’s predecessor “CLIFF BENNETT BAND”, and “I period TOE FAT” It is a soundboard album that is a collection of singles (1 song). [THE GODS BBC Live (5 songs)] First of all, THE GODS is recorded. This is a reel master that was handed out to those involved at a live broadcast on BBC 1 in 1968 and was made directly into CD. It is a master that shocked collectors all over the world because they could listen to the live performance of THE GODS, whose existence itself was a illusion. Although it is somewhat vintage, the glossy and clear sound is wonderful, but what is shocking is the live performance itself. From the beginning, the completely unreleased song “Summer In The City” jumps out, and then there are songs that could not be heard on the studio album, such as “Real Love Guaranteed”, which was the B-side of the single, and “You Keep Me Hangin’ On”, a cover of THE SUPREMES. The repertoire is repeated. Each song and each note is rare and must be heard, but the one I want to pay particular attention to is Greg Lake! Although Hensley sings the main part, he takes the lead in the middle part of “You Keep Me Hangin’ On”, and the chorus reminiscent of KING CRIMSON is unique to Greg. It is an extremely valuable live performance that makes you dizzy with his youthful voice and bass, and the fact that he is “Greg before Crimson”. [CLIFF BENNETT BAND/TOE FAT singles (3 songs)] As mentioned above, the bonus recordings after the live performance are CLIFF BENNETT BAND and TOE FAT singles. TOE FAT’s “Bad Side Of The Moon” is just a fade process added to the album version, but the fact that it was written and provided by Elton John and Bernie Tobin (they have really great connections) is itself shocking. It’s a single. Ken Hensley, a genius who carved his name into history by creating fantastic British hard rock with URIAH HEEP. It is a masterpiece that allows you to see his early career in extremely rare takes. A piece that gives you a glimpse into the behind the scenes of the British scene, which is typified by his co-starring with Greg Lake, who is too busy writing. 1. Summer In The City 2. Real Love Guaranteed 3. You Keep Me Hangin’ On 4. Towards The Sky 5.
