Description

In 1973, Gil Evans Orchestra’s masterpiece live album “Svengali” was recorded on May 30, 1973 at Holy Trinity Church in New York, and also on June 30, 1973 at the Philharmonic in New York.・This album consists of 6 songs in total, including 1 song recorded at Avery Fisher Hall. The title of this release is that it contains songs that were recorded at Philharmonic Hall but were not included in the album, in official quality sound quality. The participation of Billy Harper and Sanborn attracts attention, but the important thing is that trumpeter Hannibal (Marvin Patterson), who was not included in the recording lineup on May 30th, participates in all songs. Hannibal’s trumpet shines through Gil’s skillful arrangement. Of course, there are many listening spots such as hard-hitting Billy Harper’s tenor and young Sanborn’s alto, and it can be said that this is a live performance that jazz fans will covet. In addition, “G-G” recorded at the end is a take before editing, unlike the official version.
