The definitive edition of George Harrison’s 1974 tour is here! This is the complete, first-ever recording of the Seattle performance, with multi-track stereo demixing. The 1974 “Dark Horse Tour” was George Harrison’s first concert tour. Backed by LA Express members Billy Preston, who also performed with him at the Concert for Bangladesh, Tom Socott, Robben Ford, and Andy Newmark, and featuring Ravi Shankar & Friends, the tour attracted considerable attention. Despite George’s vocal problems and mixed reviews of Indian music, this tour’s unique arrangements, including “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and “Something,” feature altered lyrics and improvised renditions of Beatles hits like “In My Life” and “For You Blue,” have become legendary as the only tour of the 1970s. While numerous live recordings are known, the only soundboard recording available is the incomplete LA performance, previously released on the GOLDIES label. Now, the complete concert recording of the November 4, 1974 performance at the Seattle Center Coliseum is here. While this Seattle performance has long been a favorite among collectors, this time it’s been recorded in a first-of-its-kind, true stereo mix, multi-tracked from the original mono source using the latest AI demixing technology, based on the raw-generation master direct sound source. The vocals are clearer, the balance of each instrument is exquisite, and the stereo image, full of depth, is reborn as a superb sound source on a whole new level. While the original recording was a high-quality audience recording with minimal audience cheering, this recording boasts a near-perfect stereo soundboard. Even in the Indian section, the complex instrumental structure is beautifully separated, creating a three-dimensional stereo effect. Billy Preston’s funky performance also sounds clearer and more dynamic, thanks to the tremendous effect of the multi-track stereo demixing. The difference is clear when compared to previous recordings of this performance. During the 1974 tour, where there were few good sound sources and many incomplete recordings, this Seattle performance, which included a complete recording of the concert, including Ravi Shankar’s Indian section, and a stereo demix of the highest quality comparable to a sound board, is a must-have collector’s item that can be said to be the definitive edition in terms of content and quality.
