Description

GENTLE GIANT, who lost their eldest brother Phil Charman, invaded the US with the concept masterpieces “IN A GLASS HOUSE” and “THE POWER AND THE GLORY”. A new Barry Goldstein recording that conveys the legendary performance has been unearthed. It has been decided to release it urgently. This work is recorded from the “West Hollywood performance on October 12, 1974”. It is a superb audience recording recorded at the famous venue “Whisky A Go Go”. It was only in the mid-1970s that they were finally able to succeed in the US, and the turning point was the “1974 Whisky” performance. It was a legendary concert for fans, and this work is a shocking live album that captured the scene by a historical master. However, this “1974 Whisky” was not a single live performance, and the surrounding circumstances are a bit complicated. In order to explain that, let’s start by taking a bird’s-eye view of the activities at that time. 1974 March 8th – April 10th: Europe #1 (21 shows) May 5th: 5 Mei Festival appearance June 15th: Sheffield show September 6th + 8th: UK (2 shows) {September 20th “THE POWER AND THE GLORY” released} October 8th – November 17th: North America #1 (33 shows) ←★Here★ November 21st – 28th: Europe #2 (7 shows) 1975 January 14th – March 1st: North America #2 (27 shows) April 25th / May 13th + 17th / June 21st: Europe #2 (4 shows) {August “FREE HAND” released}・August 16th – September 1st: North America #3 (7 performances)・September 16th – 24th: Europe #3 (4 performances)・October 1st – November 2nd: North America #3 (20 performances)・November 10th – December 22nd: Europe #4 (10 performances)The first 6 days of “North America #1″・October 8th: Denver performance・October 9th: Whisky A Go Go performance・October 10th: Whisky A Go Go performance*October 10th (?): Aquarius Theater ←※Official video*October 11th: Whisky A Go Go performance・October 12th: Whisky A Go Go performance (2 performances, day and night)←★Here★・October 13th: Whisky A Go Go performance (2 performances, day and night)This is GENTLE GIANT in 1974/1975. Among these, “1974 Whisky” was realized immediately after the release of the album “THE POWER AND THE GLORY”. It was the beginning of “North America #1”. Although the first day of the tour was in Denver, the “Whisky A Go Go” rush began from the second performance. Seven performances were held in five consecutive nights (there is also a different theory). It seems that the members were not keen on the club performance, but the management pushed it through. As a result, all the performances were a great success, and even if the tickets were raised in price, they were sold out. It was a week that was truly the signal smoke of the invasion of the United States. In the midst of all this, this work was recorded on “October 12”. However, it is said that there were two performances on this day, and it is not yet clear which one this work was recorded at. Another point is the performance at the “Aquarius Theater” held the day before this work. TV recording was done here, and the professional shot footage became a standard. It was later recorded as “US TV Concert” in the official “GIANT ON THE BOX”. Although this footage is known as “Long Beach 1975”, it was a miscredited one. However, the above “October 10th” is also a hypothesis, so it’s confusing. The venue seems to be the Aquarius Theater, but there is a strong theory that “it’s actually October 14th to 16th,” and it has not yet been completely solved. Although the introduction full of mysteries has become too long, there is no doubt that this work is imbued with a legendary concert famous in history. And the sound that conveys it is the best with “super”. It is a type that goes “like a sound board” at time, and jumps into your ears with a fiercely thick sense of distance zero, and the fineness of the details and the sense of separation are outside the common sense of song recording. Although the audience is engraved with the vivid applause and vocal growth, the vividness of the instrumental band approaches the professional shot sound of “GIANT ON THE BOX”. The truth of the legendary performance is depicted with such an ultra-thick sound. In fact, the set is also unexpected, so let’s organize it here. Glass House: The Runaway/Experience/In A Glass House (★) Others: Gentle Giant: Funny Ways/Nothing At All (★) Others: Excerpts From Octopus (Knots/Guitar Duet/The Advent Of Panurge)/Plain Truth (★) *Note: The ★ mark indicates songs that were not heard on the official “GIANT ON THE BOX”. …And so on. As mentioned above, this was right after the release of “THE POWER AND THE GLORY”, but there were no new songs at all. According to the verification of maniacs, “Cogs In Cogs” and “Proclamation” were played on the final “October 13th”, but until then, the selection was a selection of famous songs up to “IN A GLASS HOUSE”. Of course, the “IN A GLASS HOUSE” number, which is also recommended as a masterpiece, is not bad, and you can experience “The Runaway”, where the sound of glass breaking becomes a riff, and “In A Glass House”, which was not included in “GIANT ON THE BOX”, with superb sound. GENTLE GIANT has created followers all over the world with their complex song development and performance techniques that transcend the five major bands. This is a live album where you can fully experience the legendary scene where they shone the most with a master sound. A superb audience recording of the “October 12, 1974 Whisky A Go Go performance”. The original master of the historical master Barry Goldstein, the super thick sound that goes “like a sound board” at times. This is the birth of a cultural heritage album where you can experience the legendary club gig, which is also a symbol of the invasion of the United States.
