Description

The best audience album from the “SELLING ENGLAND BY THE POUND” era is here. “SELLING ENGLAND BY THE POUND TOUR” lasted for about eight months from September 1973 to May 1974, but this work was recorded right in the middle of that period, “January 20, 1974. London performance.” At the Drury Lane Theater Royal, where the performance took place, five consecutive performances were held starting January 15th, and this is the final day. The sound is wonderful, exceeding the common sense of “70s audience recording”. In the audience recording, the weak bass sounds are wonderful, and the musical sounds of all instruments are direct and bold. What’s more, while the sound is powerful, it is also exquisite with no cracks, shakes, or noise whatsoever. On top of that, a vintage feel subtly wraps around the whole thing. If you pay close attention to the cheers, you can tell that it is an audience recording, but it is a live album with a clear beauty that flows from the speakers as if it was recorded on the radio at the time. The live show, which is filled with such high quality vintage music, is the brilliance of the “SELLING ENGLAND BY THE POUND” era, which boasts the number one popularity in the entire history of GENESIS. GENESIS during Peter Gabriel’s era was in a constant stage of development, and the later on, the more refined the performance became. In that sense, the final tour, the “Enchanting Broadway” period, will be the culmination of the tour, but as you know, the most important thing on that tour is the complete reproduction of the story, and most of the famous songs that have been accumulated over the years are not performed. I didn’t. As a result, “SELLING ENGLAND BY THE POUND TOUR”, which is a complete collection of GENESIS’ famous songs, and shows off with solid performance and expressiveness, has become the most popular. This work is one of the best on such the most important tour. It is a valuable recording that completely records the show with a sound that is hard to believe is an audience recording. In fact, from this tour, “LIVE AT THE RAINBOW”, which was made official, and “DEFINITIVE MONTREAL 1974 (Virtuoso 268/269)”, which is very popular, reign as two major soundboards, but this work includes Rainbow. You can listen to “Horizons,” which you can’t find in theaters, “More Fool Me,” which you can’t hear in Montreal, and even “Harold The Barrel,” which you can’t do even if you have both. In particular, “Harold The Barrel” of “NURSERY CRYME” is a rare song that has only been recorded a few times in the entire history of GENESIS, and it is a treasure that can be heard with clear sound just like a soundboard. A masterpiece that condenses the famous songs from the trilogy “NURSERY CRYME”, “FOXTROT” and “SELLING ENGLAND BY THE POUND” created by the Golden Five GENESIS into one show flow, and even includes extremely rare masterpieces. This is an exceptional live album even from the most popular tour. Despite its historical charm, it is a hidden masterpiece that cannot be called famous, so I would like as many people as possible to know about it. That’s what this release is for. This is a record that proves just how rich British progressive rock music was in the 70s. Please take this opportunity to experience it.
