Description
The reunited GENESIS’ “THE LAST DOMINO? Tour” has finished its 2021 schedule. The latest report will be released in two parts at the same time. This is the first of them. It is a superb audience recording of the “November 19, 2021 Raleigh performance”. This tour is GENESIS’ first reunion in 14 years, and for the rock scene, it is the pioneer of a large-scale tour that returned from the COVID-19 pandemic. It has attracted attention from all over the world, and we have reported on several classic live works in our shop. However, these two works are (slightly) different from the past. In order to explain the meaning, let’s first review the schedule that has been announced so far. 2021, September 20-October 7: UK #1 (12 shows) 2022, March 7-22: Europe (11 shows) 2022, March 24-26: UK #2 (3 shows) This is the whole picture of “THE LAST DOMINO? Tour”. Some dates were postponed to 2022 due to a positive test for the new coronavirus in the band, but they will resume soon. The other day, all the dates in 2021 were successfully completed. And so far, we have reported on “UK #1” at the beginning of the tour. In contrast, this release is the main “North American” leg. The Raleigh performance of this work is the fourth concert. Now that the tour has settled down, the sound source organization has begun, and this work is a masterpiece that is a candidate for the best work of the North American leg as a breaking news. In fact, the sound is superb. The simultaneously released “MADISON SQUARE GARDEN 2021 (Amity 656)” is a super direct sound like a sound board, but this work is a type where the hall sound that is slightly sucked in creates a gloss and fineness. This may make you think of a distant, bouncy sound, but that is not the case. The strength of the core and the fineness of the details are more than enough to be called “like a sound board”, but the sound that is slightly covered there even exudes elegance. In other words, rather than a sound board with a bare core, it is the beauty of a polished FM broadcast or an official work. Such a beautiful direct sound depicts the entire culmination tour that was held in the new continent. Let’s organize the contents here. Classics Gabriel era: The Cinema Show/The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway (★)/Firth Of Fifth/I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)/The Carpet Crawlers (with Dancing With the Moonlit Knight)・Silent Storm: Afterglow 3-piece era・And then 3 remained: Follow You Follow Me (★)・Duke: Behind The Lines/Duke’s End/Turn It On Again/Duchess・Genesis: Mama/Home By The Sea/Second Home By The Sea/That’s All (★)・Invisible Touch: Land Of Confusion/Domino/Throwing It All Away/Tonight, Tonight, Tonight/Invisible Touch・We Can’t Dance: Fading Lights/No Son Of Mine/I Can’t Dance *Note: The ★ mark indicates songs performed in an acoustic set. …And so it goes. In fact, it is the same as “UK #1”. At the Chicago performance at the beginning of the US tour, “Misunderstanding” was played for the first time in 37 years, which became a hot topic, but it seems that it was a special performance only for Chicago. That’s unfortunate, but I can’t complain because the performance has improved with experience. It’s been more than a month since “UK #1”, the ensemble has been refined with each performance, and Phil has become accustomed to the full show that lasts about two and a half hours. You can fully experience the confident Greatest Hits show with the sound of beauty. It’s still not long since the end of the North American leg, and the final performance has not yet been released, so it can’t be said that it is the masterpiece. However, this work must be one of the leading candidates. Is it “MADISON SQUARE GARDEN 2021” with a super direct feeling and volume, or this work with beautiful sound? The best audience recording of “November 19, 2021 Raleigh performance”. The strength of the core and the fineness of the details are enough to be called “like a sound board,” while the slight hall sound gives it a glossy and fine texture, and even elegance. This live album allows you to fully experience the Greatest Hits Show, which summarizes the glorious history, with a sound that also features a polished FM broadcast and the beauty of an official work.
