Description
GENESIS was a family band that took the music world by storm in the mid-80s. A professional shot video work covering the big hit clips will be released. This work is a collection of clips compiled by overseas enthusiasts, and contains 25 songs. It covers not only GENESIS itself, but also Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Tony Banks’ solos, and family bands such as MIKE + THE MECHANICS and GTR. Of course, there is no way that a huge amount of footage of a family band could fit on one DVD. Another concept of this work is the “blockbuster era”. To be more specific, it is a collection of clips from “1985/1986,” which was a series of big hits for the family. Let’s take a look at how amazing they were as hit makers at the time, along with the content of this work. [1985] ●4 songs from Phil Collins’ “NO JACKET REQUIRED (No. 1 in the US)” + 2 co-starring singles. ●Three songs from Mike Rutherford’s “MIKE + THE MECHANICS” (No. 26 in the US). [1986] ●6 songs from GENESIS “INVISIBLE TOUCH (No. 3 in the US)”. ●6 songs from Peter Gabriel’s “SO (No. 2 in the US)” (“Don’t Give Up” has 2 versions, total of 7 songs). A song from the Tony Banks movie “QUICKSILVER” soundtrack. Two songs from Steve Hackett’s “GTR (No. 11 in the US)”. …and it looks like this. Starting with Phil’s “NO JACKET REQUIRED,” which became a record-breaking hit, GENESIS and Peter also released commercial masterpieces. Furthermore, I think you can understand that it was a big hit era where even Rutherford and Hackett were making waves on the US charts. In this work, such big hit clips appear one after another, but the structure is also devised. The list is not sorted by band, but by single release date. It opened with Phil and Philip Bailey’s “Easy Lover” (Bailey’s “CHINESE WALL” was released in 1984, but the UK single was released in 1985), followed by 1985 albums “NO JACKET REQUIRED” and “MIKE +”. A series of clips from “THE MECHANICS”. Up to this point, things have been fixed because the single’s release date is near, but after that it’s been really mixed. Peter’s “Sledgehammer” → GENESIS’s “Invisible Touch” → GTR’s “When The Heart Rules The Mind” → GENESIS’s “Throwing It All Away” again… It will be replaced with a rich variety. This structure has an MTV feel so to speak. Even though everything is related to GENESIS, it’s colorful and never boring, and I keep watching it, wondering, “What’s next?” What’s more, since it’s in chronological order of single releases, it feels like real time. Strictly speaking, there are some parts that are not in the order of release date, such as MIKE + THE MECHANICS being a clip of 3 songs in a row, but there are things like “Oh, SO is finally on sale” and “I was surprised by GTR.” The two years of intense seasons are coming back to life. Moreover, the songs that appear are all familiar and nostalgic big hits. The volume of over 20 hit songs in just two years is impressive in itself, and the GENESIS family’s hit-making ability, which has been called “the greatest feat since the Beatles,” is overwhelming. Among these hit songs, Tony’s “Short Cut To Somewhere” is surprising and interesting. Although he was the only one who did not have a solo chart hit, this song is sung by Phish from MARILLION. Since he sings Tony’s songs with a voice that has been said to be “just like Peter Gabriel,” it doesn’t feel out of place at all when compared to GENESIS and Peter’s clips (in fact, GTR sounds more distinct). “CALLING ALL STATIONS” also should have been sung by Fish… It’s a masterpiece clip that makes you think about things now. The main characters of this work are those five people who gathered for “NURSERY CRYME”. In 1985/1986, not only GENESIS itself, but all five members were shining with their solos. This is a video work that gives you a panoramic view of the era when they dominated the world. It’s not just a collection of clips, it’s an MTV-style GENESIS special… or rather, it’s a 2 hour and 12 minute movie that can be enjoyed as a music movie documenting the two years of prosperity. GENESIS World has captivated the earth far beyond the limits of one group. (132:01) 1. Easy Lover (1985: Phil Collins with Philip Bailey) 2. One More Night (1985: Phil Collins) 3.
