Description

In 1977, GENESIS’ only South American tour was realized. That valuable soundboard album is now available. This work includes “May 15, 1977 Rio de Janeiro performance”. This is the FM sound board recording. Speaking of 1977, it was also symbolized by Steve Hackett’s last masterpiece, “SECONDS OUT”. First of all, let’s check the sense of distance from the overall picture of the world tour. ・January 1st – 23rd: UK (21 performances) ・February 2nd – May 1st: North America (45 performances) ・May 10th – 22nd: South America (12 performances) ←★Coco★《5 “SPOT THE PIGEON” released on October 20th》・June 2nd – July 3rd: Europe (22 performances)← *Official recording《Steve Hackett leaves》《“SECONDS OUT” released on October 21st》 This is 1977 flow. The main part of “SECONDS OUT” was the “European” leg performance in Paris, but the South American tour was just before that. At the time, Brazil was still under military dictatorship. This work is the 6th performance. If you look in more detail, there are 2 performances per day x 2 days = 4 performances in Rio, and this work is the last of them. It was the night session on the second day. The show will be broadcast on a local radio station. This work is also an FM album. Therefore, there are several air checks with DJ narration. The peak parts of the opening songs “Squonk” and “One For The Vine” are a little noisy (don’t worry, this is not a manufacturing error or a malfunction of the playback device), but after that the sound improves considerably and becomes a wonderful sound. Masu. Although it is not as good as “BRAZILIAN ’77” of the iron-clad Sao Paulo performance, that is why it is fun to have a South American radio feeling that allows you to see the situation at the time. Not only the DJ but also Phil Collins speaks in Portuguese, and the unnatural repeated loud cheers reminiscent of later ROCK IN RIO are South American. It’s hard to tell whether I’m praising it or not, but when I actually listen to it, it’s truly heart-warming and historic. Brazil’s transition to civilian rule was realized in 1985, and the first ROCK IN RIO was held in that year. This work was eight years before that, and it was unexplored territory that few Western rock bands had ever stepped into. At that scene, that fantastic progressive rock is being played. South America is also a major producer of symphonic rock, which reached its peak in the 1980s. The young Marco Antonio Araujo, SAGRADO, and BACAMARTE may have been shocked by the visit of the original GENESIS. Maybe this broadcast is the source of the South American symphonic music…I am driven to the point of delusion. This is a bit of a digression, but it’s simply wonderful as a single music album. Although it is just before “SECONDS OUT”, the set is different, and “One For The Vine”, “Inside And Out”, and “…In That Quiet Earth”, which can not be heard even in that masterpiece, will be performed. Of course, these songs could also be heard on “BRAZILIAN ’77,” but what’s even more unusual is the opening. It is “Firebird Suite” that announces the start of the show, and you can enjoy extremely rare scenes that seem like YES on the stereo sound board. GENESIS’ South American tour was the only one in history. “BRAZILIAN ’77” is the pinnacle, but this work is also a soundboard collection that cannot be missed. GENESIS spread the seeds of symphonic rock at the dawn of South America in the 1970s.
