Description

Finally, the day has come when we can deliver this masterpiece video. This is the highest quality version of the long-out-of-print official video “BLUES FOR GREENY LIVE”. We have reprinted out-of-print video works such as “AN EVENING OF THE BLUES” and “LIVE BLUES” in the past, but this work is the real deal. It’s been a while since we reprinted analog video, so let me say it again: this is a series that reprints out-of-print videos that have been abandoned by the official and have no chance of being made into DVDs. The key points are “discovering the best masters” and “digitalization environment”. We unearthed the finest mint quality laser discs and videos from that time, and entrusted them to an overseas analog video manufacturer to digitize them. This manufacturer has a professional high-end equipment used by broadcasting stations, whether it be laser discs or VHS/Beta, and can bring out a different dimension of image beauty and sound than consumer devices. Even in the previous series, many customers were surprised and asked, “Why is it better than our LD!?” and “Was it this good?”, and many customers have repeatedly purchased it. Now, as for the latest in the reprint series, the reason why the reprint was delayed so far is due to the release situation at the time. This work was not released on DVD, nor on laser disc worldwide, only on VHS. This work was reprinted from a mint quality VHS, but it was difficult to find this mint tape. It seems that Gary’s activities were stagnant at this time, and the number of copies in circulation may have been small. Even the master of the core collector who provided us with the masterpieces so far had a slight deterioration, and we finally found a master in perfect condition by following his connections. Having overcome such circumstances, the quality of this work is perfect. Not only is there not a single line noise, but there is no slight twisting at all. With tape masters, it is inevitable that there will be a few millimeters of distortion in the corners of the screen, but this one achieves a glossy, clear image without even that. The sound is even more amazing. Of course, it is official quality, but even by official standards there is a wide range. The sound of this work is pin-point, and is truly in the class of a sound masterpiece. Gary’s Les Paul, of course, from the nuances of the brushes to the delicacy of the orchestra, are super beautiful. When it comes to quality up to this point, even laser discs are rare. I can’t believe that such a large amount of information was recorded on analog VHS… The sound is amazing at the possibilities of the media itself. Now, what I call the “real deal” more than such quality is the music and performance itself. Gary has devoted about half of his career to blues, and among them, “BLUES FOR GREENY” was the closest he came to the “real thing”. In this work, he also shows off Gary’s characteristic crying heavy blues, but he also gives us plenty of acoustic and natural blues. And the song selection is also great. Nine songs (all songs except “The Supernatural” and “Looking For Somebody”) from “BLUES FOR GREENY” dedicated to Peter Green are performed, and there are many rare songs. Of course, there are familiar songs like “Since I Met You Baby”, but “If You Be My Baby”, “Long Grey Mare”, and “The Same Way” have only been recorded two or three times, and “World Keep On Turning”, “Driftin'”, “Love That Burns”, and “Dust My Broom” are said to have only been performed once in this work. Not only are they extremely rare, but it is extremely rare in Gary’s entire history to be piled up in such large quantities. Moreover, since it is built on the songs he has loved for many years in “BLUES FOR GREENY”, the performance is also impressive. Even though it is rare, it is a masterpiece that has become flesh and blood… it is a delicious one from start to finish. And this work is also the culmination of Gary Bruce. Gary had been on the blues path since 1990’s “STILL GOT THE BLUES,” but in 1995 he disbanded THE MIDNIGHT BLUES BAND and left the blues. From then on, he moved to modern music until his declaration of a return to blues with “BACK TO THE BLUES” in 2001. This work is just before that. It is a superb video that records the moment when he pursued the blues and first felt that he had “done it.” “BLUES FOR GREENY LIVE” was a tribute to Peter Green, which was Gary’s starting point, and the destination of his blues. This is a masterpiece that revives the official video with the highest quality ever. At the time, it was not a big hit or a very popular period, and it is unlikely that it will be made into an official DVD in the future. However, it is also a film that allows you to fully enjoy “Gary’s true face” precisely because of this time. The more you think about his life and career, the more the official video becomes heavy.
