Description
Gary Moore’s first live performance in the summer of 1982, when he started his solo career, and two live performances at the Marquee Club, which excited London fans, are now released as a long-awaited 3-disc set! In the summer of 1982, when the production of “CORRIDORS OF POWER” was completed, Gary organized a new band with Neil Murray, Ian Paice, Tommy Iyer, who participated in the album, and Charlie Hunn, a former member of TED NUGENT who also sang on Gary’s “DIRTY FINGERS”, and began live activities prior to the album release. Gary plans to make a full debut of his new band at the Reading Festival on August 28th, but prior to that, he booked a one-off live performance to make a strong appeal to British fans for the big stage. This time, we have completed the three August performances that were held as warm-up gigs! In addition to the first gig on August 24th, this work is a complete package of live recordings from the prestigious London “Marquee Club” on the 25th and 26th, all of which are excellent audience recordings, and will be acclaimed by Gary fans as a new standard. The Chippenham performance on August 24th recorded on Disc 1 is known to some traders as a sound source that includes a take that is said to be a “sound check on the same day”, but these had problems with tape speed and material generation. In contrast, this work is a sound record based on the top masters currently available, and the accurately adjusted pitch and easy-to-listen-to sound that has been remastered can literally be said to be the definitive version of the same day. In addition to the sound quality that captures the atmosphere of the venue, which is filled with outstanding mood and excitement from the intro before the show, with a high enough quality for an audience recording at that time, the well-balanced sound created by the moderate distance between the stage and the taper is undoubtedly the best listening experience. The live performance, starting with “Majestuso E’ Virtouso” and “End Of The World”, proceeds at a calm tempo as the band confirms their performance. The members’ playing has excellent contours and separation, and the solid performance and fresh recording firmly reconstruct the fine details in front of the listener. At this point, “CORRIODRS OF POWER” has not yet been released, so the set, which is full of new songs that will be performed live for the first time, is “unknown territory” for the audience, and neither the stage nor the audience seats have the explosive groove that can be heard at the ’83 Japan performance. However, the unique mood created by both the band’s play that judges the audience’s reaction and the audience listening to the songs as if to “see what you can do” is full of tension that cannot be experienced in a “pre-established harmony live” where all the hands are known. This special atmosphere that drifts in this sound source is probably emanating from the seriousness with which Gary is “taking a gamble” on his new career. The audience’s reaction, which was “wait and see” in the first half, turns positive as they listen to the moving masterpieces “I Can’t Wait Until Tomorrow” and “Don’t Take Me For A Loser”. The audience reacts with excitement to “Rockin’ And Rollin'”, which closes the main part of the set, and “Parisienne Walkways”, the first encore song, as if they had been waiting for this. The last song, “Back On The Streets”, is a high-tension play that seems to release everything the band has been storing up, and Gary’s solo in particular is so crazy that it knocks out all the listeners! Discs 2 and 3 contain live performances at the London “Marquee Club” on August 25th and 26th, respectively. There have been several recordings of this Marquee performance before, but it has been confirmed that “BACK ON THE WARDOUR STREET” (Shades) was performed on the 25th after verification. Therefore, this time it has been fully remastered from the original material and recorded as Disc 2. The sound source was well received for its excellent sound when it was released, but for this re-release, it has been remastered to fine-tune the treble and increase the overall sound pressure. The sound is more natural and fat, while maintaining the outstanding clear sound with both stability and directness. Charlie seems to have gotten a feel for the new songs at the live show the day before, and he sings with a relaxed and unique voice in “End Of The World” and “Rockin’ Every Night”, and enjoys a soulful taste in “Cold Hearted”. Gary was also inspired by his song, and he plays exquisite songs in “I Can’t Wait Until Tomorrow” and “Don’t Take Me For A Loser”. The Spanish tone at the beginning of the encore “Parisienne Walkways” is a big listening point unique to this day. The famous live performance revived with upgraded sound quality must be a big surprise for those who have listened to the previous releases! In addition, some of the gaps between songs that were cut short in “BACK ON THE WARDOUR STREET” have been filled in by another master from the same day, bringing us closer to the truth of this live performance. (The 1 minute 30 seconds calling for an encore after the end of Rockin’ And Rollin’ at the end of the main set is the first time it has been heard uncut, and you can also hear the DJ call of the Marquee live thanks to this voice. It is also recorded for about 20 seconds longer after the end of Back On The Streets.) The live performance on the second day of the Marquee on Disc 3 and the 26th day has been recorded from a newly acquired higher master, using the previously released sound source known as “BACK TO THE MARQUEE”. The performance of this day is included as a bonus track on the current official live performance “ROCKIN’ EVERY NIGHT”, as well as the encore “Parisienne Walkways” and “Back On The Streets”. Unfortunately, the encore part is lost in this sound source, but apart from that, you can enjoy this precious live performance with excellent visibility and balance. As it was the third day of three consecutive live performances, the band was completely familiar with the stage and performed a wonderful performance with a high sense of unity. The outstanding tension in “End Of The World” and “Rockin’ Every Night” cannot help but overwhelm all listeners! Gary’s vocals in “Wishing Well” are also stable (Neil’s bass is also powerful in this song). “Don’t Take Me For A Looser” is performed after “Dallas Warhead” on this day. John Sloman had a hard time with this song during his Japan tour, but Charlie sang it with his powerful husky voice without breaking the idea of the album. Ian Paice’s tense drumming also helps to increase the thrill of the song. As mentioned above, the recording only goes up to the last song of the main story, “Rockin’ And Rollin'”, but the satisfaction and excitement are undeniably high, and you can enjoy a fulfilling performance in any scene. This album, which packages up to three of the four shows that Gary performed in August 1982, is definitely a must-have for all Gary fans! The lineup, which includes the rhythm section of Neil Murray and Ian Paice, as well as Charlie Huhn and Tommy Eyer, is a strong lineup compared to Gary’s subsequent bands, and the ensemble of the five of them shines in every recording. In this album, you can see the band increasing their tension and the precision of their performance with each live performance as they head towards the big stage of the Reading Festival. It is rare to see an item that allows you to understand the quality of audience recording as a true record in such a clear way.
