Description

From the tour accompanying Gary Moore’s 1989 “AFTER THE WAR” release, a collection of fan-coveted performances from three German tours cut out with the highest quality audience recordings is here! The recordings of the ’89 live shows include the Sheffield, UK performance of “THE DAYS TO REMEMBER”, which immediately became a hot topic among fans immediately after its release the other day, but there are no other items that compile only three “AFTER THE WAR” live recordings with the same taper, and this work will definitely be the definitive version of the ’89 German tour! After the release of “AFTER THE WAR” in January 1989, Gary welcomed Cozy Powell, who collaborated on the album, into his band and began rehearsing for the tour with a lineup of Gary, Cozy, Bob Dissley and Neil Carter. However, Gary, who wanted to “play perfectly,” and Cozy, who wanted to play the drums in his own way, were in sharp conflict, and in the end, one week before the tour started, Cozy parted ways with Gary and decided to focus on his activities with BLACK SABBATH. As a result, Gary quickly added virtuoso Chris Slade, known for his work with THE FIRM, but he was unable to make it in time for the start of the UK tour on March 5th, and the first day’s Edinburgh performance and the second day’s Sheffield performance had to be postponed, and the tour started with the performance in Dublin, Ireland on March 8th. After digesting three performances in the UK, the band embarked on a European tour centered on Germany from March 14th. This work packages the patterns of the three performances in the middle of this tour, all of which are first-time appearance materials with the same taper. Since the equipment and recording method are the same, the sound quality difference is small, and you can relive all the shows with the same level of quality. In addition, the composition of concentrating the main part of the show on one side of the disc and not compromising the development of the live performance will not cause any stress to the listener, and will allow you to immerse yourself in the contents of the sound source! Discs 1 and 2 contain the performance of the sixth performance of the German tour on March 21st in Sabrücken. In addition to the natural sound spread and clear brightness, the musical sounds that are separated so that the performance of each member floats while Gary’s play is the main focus are definitely top class among the Gary live performances that have appeared so far. From the opening “After The War”, the quality will give the listener a certain satisfaction. The superb recording with little audience noise is undeniable, and “Military Man”, “So Far Away”, “Empty Rooms” etc. are sounds that you would mistake for a broadcast sound source without any exaggeration. The medley of “Out In The Fileds” and “Over The Hills And Far Away”, which has a wide sound suitable for the song, spreads the world view of the song in front of the listener like a panorama, and produces the climax of the show with a sense of scale that is unmatched. It is worth getting this work just to listen to this flow! The encore “Rockin’ Every Night”, which starts with Gary’s warm-up, has an energetic mood like the ’83 tour, and along with the following “All Messed Up”, it also shows off the “guitar crazy” style to the fullest. However, “Johnny Boy” creates a warm and mellow atmosphere, and the emotional “Parisienne Walkways” decorates the finale of the masterpiece. The 90 minutes of dense performances recorded in high quality can be said to be the true essence of Gary’s live performance in the hard rock era. Disc 3 features the Freiburg performance held on March 22, the day after the Zarbrücken performance. The powerful sound, which is close-up by the performance while maintaining the wideness of the Zarbrücken performance class, is an ideal recording for enjoying the dynamism of Gary’s live performance. In particular, Gary’s guitar sound unfolding in “Shapes Oh Things” is captured with an exquisite tone, which will be intoxicating to all fans. In “Wild Fronier”, the delicate part in the middle is depicted in detail without missing any details, and the splendor of the contrast expressed in the song is asserted to be one of the best live takes of the song. “Blood Of Emerald”, where the emotional play of Neil Carter and Chris Slade tightens the listener’s heart from the intro, will bring new emotions to the listener no matter how many times you listen to it. This sound source ends with the second encore song “All Messed Up”, but the set list record written by an overseas fan at the time also shows the performance up to this song, so it is speculated that the 77-minute recording of this sound source is all the songs of the day. This sound source, which has a clear flow of events from the opening to the ending of the show, even gives the impression of a beautiful construction that would be enough to be a single item. The final discs 4 and 5 record the 12th performance in Ludwigshafen on March 29th, which is located in the middle of the European tour, which had a total of 26 performances, for 93 minutes. Nearly a month has passed since the start of the tour, and the band will give you a tight performance with a sense of unity more than ever before. The sound, which combines a sense of realism backed by outstanding visibility and spatial spread, a balance like a line sound source, power and ease of listening, is of the highest quality! The sound is clearly superior compared to the other two performances, and you can enjoy the tight band’s performance to the fullest. The flow from the intro “Dunluce” reminiscent of dawn to the dramatic opening of “After The War”, to the deep “Shapes Of Things” and “Wild Frontier” is a highlight that can only be heard on Gary’s live ’89 tour. Among these, the commercial sound of “This Thing Called Love,” which even has a VAN HALEN-esque atmosphere, feels unusual in a set list with strong serious elements, but the audience is very excited and it plays an important role in drawing the audience into the following “Military Man.” From the middle of the live performance, when “So Far Away” begins to the cheers of the audience, to the superlative realism of “Over The Hills And Far Away,” the listeners are completely overwhelmed, and this is definitely the best part of this lengthy 5-disc album! The romantic mood of “Parisienne Walkways,” which closes the live performance, cannot be described in a million words, and this is a wonderful experience that you can only enjoy by listening to this album! Gary’s live recordings from his ’89 European tour have been shining as a monumental achievement until now, with the performance on the final day of the German tour, “FIGHTING FOR GERMANY,” but this work will be loved by fans for a long time to come as a masterpiece that rivals it. If you add this work to “FIGHTING FOR GERMANY,” which will be restocked in limited quantities this time, and listen to the four shows side by side, you will be able to gain more than enough understanding and re-experience of the German tour that year. This work, which has superb sound quality, an overwhelming volume that cannot be matched by others, and a collectible item, no longer feels like the word “exceptional” has faded. A memorial item that is sure to impress even the most enthusiastic Gary fans has finally been released!
