Description
After the release of “VICTIMS OF THE FUTURE”, Gary Moore embarked on a full-scale world tour starting with a performance in Cardiff, England on February 4, 1984. After completing a total of 12 performances in the UK, he toured Japan with 5 performances from February 24 to 29, and in March he toured Scandinavia with 6 performances, captivating fans in various places with his energetic live activities. This work is a recording of the Cologne, Germany performance on March 20th, which was held in various European countries after the Scandinavian tour, using high-quality audience recording and master direct recording of the entire performance from the opening to the end of the show. As the title suggests, this show is a very rare recording of the rare “Teenage Idol” from “VICTIM OF THE FUTURE” as an encore. The recording was done with a high level of quality approaching that of the masterpiece audience sound source “VICTIMS AT HAMMERSMITH”. Not only is the sound clear, but the sound image that makes you feel the performance directly while being full of air is an excellent listening experience (it’s amazing that you can hardly notice unnecessary audience noise while having a great sense of realism!). In the remastering process, we have tried to make the most of the excellence of these materials, achieving both ease of listening and the power of the sound. This work will gain an unshakable reputation among fans as the best one worthy of being the definitive version of the European tour sound source! The set list of the show, which starts with a bouncy “Rockin’ Every Night” and flows with “Wishing Well” and “Shapes Of The Things”, is the standard for the ’84 tour, and there is no significant difference in the structure of the main part of the live performance. However, after the UK tour and the Japan tour, the band’s playing, unity and stability are now rock solid, and Ian Paice and Neil Carter, who support Gary’s guitar, are showing ironclad teamwork. Gary’s singing, which felt a little stiff at the beginning of the tour, is already a fine vocalist at this point, and he uses his wild voice to create a variety of expressions, just like his guitar, from the high energy “Rockin’ Every Night” to the serious “Wishing Well”. In the thrilling “Murder In The Skies”, although there are some raspy and flipped parts, he gives us a powerful and well-developed singing voice. Unfortunately, there is a tape change at the beginning of “Don’t Take Me For A Loser”, but it is limited to a small part, and the performance itself can still be enjoyed with stable sound quality. Don’t miss the scene where Gary shows off his soulful solo with Paice’s lively and dynamic drums in the background. Along with the dramatic “Victims Of The Future” and the guitar-saturated “Empty Rooms,” this should be called the highlight of the middle part of the live show! “Blinder,” which begins with Gary’s MC saying “It’s a new song,” is a number that replaces “Hurricane” from the ’83 tour. Although the performance, which includes a drum solo, is not the type of instrumental that allows you to hear interplay, it is the same in that it shows off their high level of performance ability. And the spectacular guitar solo in “White Knuckles” is undoubtedly a masterpiece. The storm-like picking, which is captured in detail on a per-note basis, and the slicing choking pierce the listener’s eardrums directly! The thrill and heaviness of “End Of The World,” which is played as a prelude, is at an agonizing level. The main part of the set ends with “Back On The Streets,” but the encore that follows is the best part of this work. “Nuclear Attack” and “Rockin’ & Rollin'” are familiar from various recordings, but “Hold On To Love”, with its catchy wet melody line, is a selection unique to this time of year. It is a masterpiece that decorated the end of the Japan tour, and this will be a special moment for us Japanese fans. Then, with “Teenage Idol” played next, the live is sublimated into something special! The take of this song that exists among collectors is confirmed to be from the Nijmegen performance in the Netherlands on March 21st the following year, and the Paris performance in France on March 29th, but since it was basically treated as a choice between “Hold On To Love” and “Hold On To Love”, it is definitely a surprise to hear both in the same set. It is a song like a catchy rock party song, but it is a perfect number to end the live brightly and happily, including the interaction with the audience. The recording time of about 108 minutes until the show end is on the long side of the live performances that Gary performed at that time, and it will provide the listeners with plenty of dense time.
