Description

This elusive live performance, in astonishingly high quality, has finally been released from a newly unearthed broadcast recording. Kurt Rosenwinkel, the emperor of modern jazz guitar, was selected by the Gary Burton Group when he was still in his early twenties. His unique, lyrical, and intellectual guitar approach is already evident, revealing the beginnings of his later style. Though he appeared on Gary Burton’s album “Six Pack,” his guitar playing is limited to just two tracks. However, Burton, who brought a young Pat Metheny and the unknown Julian Lage into his touring roster, recognized Kurt Rosenwinkel’s talent at this early stage. The setlist for this Ludwigsburg, Germany performance is centered around tracks from the “Six Pack” album. The hiss inherent in the broadcast tape has been minimized, allowing you to fully enjoy this rare full show.
