Description
FREE is a miraculous band made up of four young people with an average age of 20 who embody the ideals of blues rock. The legendary name recording is now updated to its highest peak. There are two performances included in this work. This is a 2-disc set with the very famous soundboard recording of “January 22, 1971 Santa Monica Performance” on Disc 1, and the superb audience recording of “January 16, 1971 San Francisco Performance” on Disc 2. If you’re thinking “Huh?” here, you’re smart. It is very similar to “SAN FRANCISCO 1971” which was once very popular. However, this work is neither that famous masterpiece nor a remastered reissue. It is a similar and different upgrade board. Now, let’s introduce each of them in detail. [DISC 1: FM soundboard of Santa Monica performance] First, the FM soundboard recording of “January 22, 1971 Santa Monica performance” will appear. This sound board is a famous recording that has long symbolized FREE before it was disassembled in the air, and it is a classic among the classics that has produced many previous releases. Although it was also included in the Masterport edition, this work is different from that. This is a new master recently announced by the prestigious excavator “Krw_co”. After all, the length is different. It is made into a CD directly from the analog master of the FM broadcast, but it also includes DJs and announcements that were cut and could not be heard. It is a master that is longer and closer to the truth of broadcasting. Moreover, this work is meticulously mastered by such “Krw_co” master. Of course, we did not do anything that would contaminate the newly discovered sound, but carefully corrected the pitch and noise while making the most of the original sound. In fact, there are (slight) cuts between songs, at the beginning of “I’m A Mover,” and in the middle of “Mr. Big,” just like in the previous releases, but the sense of discomfort has been minimized. Processed so that it can be heard naturally. While valuing its historical value, we have enhanced its “dignity” and “completeness” as a musical work. What is depicted with such a top-notch sound is the miraculous blues rock that Britain produced. I’m sure the contents are well known as it’s a classic, but it’s also a good opportunity to organize the set. ●TONS OF SOBS (2 songs)・I’m A Mover/The Hunter ●FIRE AND WATER (5 songs)・All Right Now/Fire And Water/Mr. Big・Songs that can’t be heard on FREE LIVE!: Don’t Say You Love Me/Heavy Load ●HIGHWAY (5 songs)・Be My Friend/Ride On Pony・Songs that cannot be heard on FREE LIVE!: The Stealer/The Highway Song/Soon I Will Be Gone ●Other (3 songs)・Woman FREE”・Songs that cannot be heard on FREE LIVE!: My Brother Jake/Rock Me Baby…and so on. It not only concentrates the essence of the four original works, but also includes seven famous songs that cannot be heard on the traditional official version of “FREE LIVE!”. All of them are valuable, but especially “Don’t Say You Love Me,” “Heavy Load,” and “The Highway Song” are not played in later BAD COMPANY or Paul Rodgers’ solos. You can listen to it on the sound board. Of course, the other songs are also a deep and rich blues rock utopia. It is more vivid than “FREE LIVE!”, and the flow of the show is natural because it is unedited. You can feel the passion that builds as each song is repeated, and the mellow blues dripping deeper and deeper. It is often said that “FREE LIVE!” can also be referred to as “FREE’s best album,” but this album exceeds that masterpiece in volume and rawness. [DISC 2: Recorded by related parties at Fillmore West] Following the highest peak edition of the traditional soundboard is the finest audience recording that first appeared on Masterport’s “SAN FRANCISCO 1971” and shocked the world. It is shocking just because it is the first sound source of FREE, but the horizon on which this recording stands was not like that. After all, the quality was amazing. This was recorded by the Japanese staff of the record company at the time as a reference material, and was converted directly to CD from the original cassette. Especially amazing is Andy Fraser’s bass. It’s clearly closer than the other three, and its extremely thick and active core is extremely powerful, and the mellow groove and melodies full of singing heart jump into your ears. Of course, the other three who play the thick bass are also a must-listen. It’s probably in the seats for those involved, but the clarity that cuts through the fat bass stands out, and you can really taste its subtleties. Although it is a short recording of 30 minutes, its density surpasses even the sound board recording of Disc 1, and you can also enjoy “Songs Of Yesterday” that could not be heard at the Santa Monica performance. This is a long story, but this is just a story about the Masterport version. In this work, the original cassette has been digitized again and has been carefully mastered. In addition to simply adjusting the balance with disc 1, each noise that was on the original tape was removed one by one. We also carefully processed the parts where one channel had dropped sound. In fact, the original tape was recorded in monaural on stereo tape. Therefore, although the same audio was recorded on both channels, the degree of deterioration was partially different over time. In this work, both channels were checked in detail, and the best parts were used throughout the entire film. Of course, since the sound source is the same, there is no difference, and we have achieved a noiseless and glossy sound. Three months after this work, the original FREE made their legendary first visit to Japan, and immediately after that, during their Australian tour, relationships broke down. Although their music was extremely rich, they themselves were 20-year-old daredevils. A miraculous blues rock that existed for a short time before its collapse. This work is a live album that allows you to experience that stage with the best sound. A 2-disc set that permanently preserves both the highest-level edition of the historic soundboard and the miraculous recordings of those involved in the ultimate quality.
