Description

“Hitachi Music in Hyphonic. Today is the 7th Hyphonic Special on Stage. Many artists came to Japan last year, but the one who showed the most amazing stage was Fleetwood Mac. Currently, Fleetwood Mac is the No. 1 selling band in the pop scene, but they proved that they are No. 1 not only in records but also in the stage. They were also selected for the Nippon Broadcasting System’s Best Stage Award, and their reputation is increasing. Today we brought you a picture of Fleetwood Mac’s stage. The style is almost the same as their Japan tour, so those who went to the concert last year may have remembered the scene then…” (DJ outro) FLEETWOOD MAC made a new start in 1975, and their album “FLEETWOOD MAC” won the No. 1 spot on the US Billboard. They achieved unprecedented success. Although the relationships within the band were complicated, the 1977 album “RUMOURS” was an even bigger hit than the previous album, and sold an unprecedented 17 million copies. They had become an undisputed superstar. They performed in Japan in December 1977, much to the delight of their Japanese fans. The live recordings from that time were included in the official live album “LIVE” released in 1980, and the 1977 tour recordings were also available in the recently released deluxe edition of “RUMOURS”. However, for enthusiasts, the first live performance that comes to mind when thinking of them at that time is the one in Las Vegas on August 25, 1977. This work records the classic recordings from the excellent air check master broadcast on the Japanese radio. It was broadcast on the popular music radio program “Hitachi Music in Hyphonic” at 10 p.m. on May 30, 1978, about half a year after their first visit to Japan. Fans who have listened to FLEETWOOD MAC in real time, including the opening and ending DJs in Japanese, will be able to experience the ultimate nostalgia. This radio program is broadcast on Nippon Broadcasting System’s AM radio, but the reception itself is excellent and stable. The mood of 35 years ago that permeates the opening narration is irresistible. Fans at the time must have been glued to their radios listening to the live recording that was broadcast about six months after their first visit to Japan. It can be said to be a very realistic sample of the era when radio was very important for Western music fans. The songs are dominated by “FLEETWOOD MAC” and “RUMOURS” songs, and the content feels cohesive. Starting with Christine McVie’s ’75 hit “Say You Love Me,” the performance by two female singers with different personalities, Stevie Nicks’ “Dreams,” is full of the FLEETWOOD MAC of the time. Although the band had a pop feel at the time, the heavy “I’m So Afraid” has a rich performance that is typical of a British blues band. You can enjoy the catchy “Go Your Own Way” and the warm acoustic sound of “Songbird” until the end. At the end, the announcer explains the live performance in relation to their 1977 Japan tour. This outro (the commercials are also nostalgic!) is also very tasteful. Although it is a standard live source from the past, the broadcast in Japan at that time is a delight for fans who were in real time. Fans who follow it later will be able to enjoy the mood of the time in a realistic way. Live at Aladdin Theater, Las Vegas.
