Description

THE FACES in the latter half of 1974, when they welcomed Tetsu Yamauchi and were conducting their last European tour. The best soundboard album is newly discovered. This work was recorded at “Copenhagen performance on October 18, 1974”. This is a stereo soundboard recording. Speaking of 1974, the live album “COAST TO COAST”, Rod Stewart’s “SMILER”, Ron Wood’s “I’VE GOT MY OWN ALBUM TO DO” were released, and the legendary first visit to Japan was also realized. Furthermore, the official video “LAST CONCERT” was also left, and it was a year with many topics. First of all, in order to understand the situation, let’s first look back at the schedule at that time and check the show’s position. [“COAST TO COAST” released on January 10th]・January 27th – February 9th: Oceania (7 performances)・February 15th – 20th: Japan (4 performances)・February 28th: Indianapolis Performances ・July 6th + August 17th: Europe #1 (2 performances) [“I’VE GOT MY OWN ALBUM TO DO” released on September 13th] ・September 13th – October 6th: Europe #2 (4 performances)《“SMILER” released on October 4th》・October 18th-24th: Northern Europe (3 performances)←★Here★・November 15th-December 23rd: UK (10 performances)←※ Official video This is THE FACES in 1974. They continued their activities until the following year, 1975, but in the last year they only toured North America. The last show in Europe was in 1974. However, rather than a large-scale tour, it was more like a few performances in between the releases of each solo album, and the Copenhagen performance of this work was the first of three Northern European performances in early autumn (by the way, the official video “LAST CONCERT” was released in the UK) It was the last day of the tour). It has been rumored that such a show has a sound board recording for a long time. It seems that it was distributed among some core collectors in the early 2000s, but it was not distributed to the general public. While people wonder, “Does it really exist?”, it has become semi-legendary. However, in 2020, that legend turned into reality. A collector who actually acquired it in the early 2000s, which was rumored to have been published, has revealed it. Moreover, it has appeared as an upgrade master that has been carefully corrected over time! The quality is truly shocking. Although the detailed origin is still unknown, the mix is so lively that you can hardly hear the cheers, so to speak, it is a direct-to-the-table mix. Although it has a slightly vintage feel, the live performance is exceptionally fresh and untouched for the 70s, and is poured into your brain with a sense of close contact. It is a stereo sound board with 100% synchronization that makes it feel like your brain becomes a stage, or the five members of THE FACES are living in your head. Moreover, this work is the highest peak edition that further refines such a newly discovered master. It seems that the overseas collector who discovered it also performed treatments such as correcting the gaps between tracks, but the master released online was still not perfect. Of course, repeated processing will ruin the natural sound, so we do not touch the sound and sound quality. We thoroughly corrected only the disturbance of the master. There are many points, but there are two main ones. First, the pitch. It seems that overseas enthusiasts also fixed it, so there was certainly no random disturbance, but even so, the deviation of about 1/3 of a semitone was fixed perfectly. The other is the high fall of one channel. It wasn’t a fatal flaw in the sound quality, but the balance between the left and right channels tended to be disturbed. In this work, we have adjusted this balance step by step to achieve an overall uniform and smooth sound that can be heard. With such a sound, it is a show that is reminiscent of the late THE FACES. First of all, it is a set, but the recording time of this work is about 64 minutes, which is much longer than “COAST TO COAST”. There are cuts at the ending of “Angel” and “Borstal Boys” and at the beginning of “Stay With Me,” so it’s not a complete recording, but you can enjoy plenty of famous songs that can’t be heard on the traditional official edition. Let’s organize the songs while comparing them here. Every Picture Tells A Story (I Know) I’m Losing You (★) / Every Picture Tells A Story (★) / Maggie May (★) Nembutsu in the Horse’s Ears – Memphis, Tennessee (★) / Too Bad/Stay With Me Never a Dull Moment I’d Rather Go Blind/Angel/You Wear It Well (★) Others Oo La La: Borstal Boys Smiler: Sweet Little Rock’n Roller ( ★)・Ore to Nakama: Take A Look At The Guy (★) *Note: Songs marked with “★” are not available on the traditional version “COAST TO COAST”. …and it looks like this. There are seven songs in the repertoire that cannot be heard on “COAST TO COAST”, especially “(I Know) I’m Losing You”, “Every Picture Tells A Story”, and Chuck Berry’s cover “Memphis, Tennessee”. It’s a delicious number that you can’t hear even on “LAST CONCERT”. Overall, the wide range of selections from the recently released “I’VE GOT MY OWN ALBUM TO DO” and “SMILER” stands out, and Ron can also enjoy lead vocals on “Take A Look At The Guy”. And, it is the oud of the show that permeates such a set that is fully characteristic of the later period. The rhythm and rhythm are very relaxed, and Rod is in a good mood and talks talkatively between songs. Sometimes the talk was incomprehensible, but maybe it was because there was a little too much alcohol on that day. Of course, it’s not like they’re falling apart due to drunkenness, but that’s what creates a good groove, and the indescribably pleasant mood makes the groove flexible. The late THE FACES was on the verge of collapse as solo activities became more active. The stereo soundboard recording, which was unknown only through rumors, has been improved and finally appeared in front of us. An amazing new discovery where you can enjoy a show different from “COAST TO COAST” and “LAST CONCERT” in the highest quality. (Remaster Memo) Corrected pitch about 30% higher than a semitone.
