Description

The release of the definitive 1970 Santa Monica album “ROD STEWART & FACES: PLYNTH”, supervised by “GRAF ZEPPELIN” for the super-intense audience of TMOQ, is still fresh in our memory, but this time, the audience album recorded the stage at Fillmore West two days earlier with shocking sound quality. If you listen to it once, you will understand that the impact is not exaggerated. After all, the sound image is closer than the previous Santa Monica. The overwhelming sound pressure of Ronnie’s guitar and Ian McLagan’s keyboards makes you want to call them “soundboards themselves”. How on earth was it possible to record such an audience in 1970? In the first place, when the Faces toured the United States in 1970, they had already released their first album, but for the convenience of the group’s popularity, they went around under the name “Small Faces”. It is surprising that such a high quality audience recording was left behind, even though they are just a fledgling band, and even so, along with Santa Monica. And yet the venue is also very lively. However, there is no harsh realism picked up from the surroundings, and the good balance is just astonishing. Santa Monica, recorded by the TMOQ team, seemed to have a calm realism because the Sennheiser microphone does not pick up the excitement of the surroundings, but this recording also captures the appearance of the Fillmore audience who are enthusiastic about the band with an exquisite balance. Furthermore, since it is a stage at Fillmore West, it is of course Bill Graham who introduces the band at the opening. The exquisite audience who breathed in the air of the Fillmore in 1970 has been released in the past by Scorpio under the name “A ROCK ‘N’ ROLL PARTY WITH THE FACES” and recently in the gray zone CD “LIVE AT THE FILLMORE 1970”, but this time, the best sound quality recording has been achieved from the original master. After all, the upper feeling is so striking that even the HIWATT version, which seemed to have such high sound quality, is overshadowed. Since it is from the master, there is no dubbing feeling like the HIWATT version, and in fact there are even longer parts than the HIWATT version. Above all, the freshness of the tape is so excellent that “GRAF ZEPPELIN”, who supervised the release this time, said “There was almost no touching”. It must have been in very good condition. The final touch is that this recording is a complete recording of the live performance. They were forced to tour under the name of Small Faces, and in fact Graham introduces the band as such here, but since they have been touring the United States energetically since spring, the reaction of the audience is really enthusiastic. It is so good to hear that they are steadily gaining fans. In addition, since this was a solo live performance, the performance time was longer than in Santa Monica, and the value of capturing the early Faces’ stage with the best sound quality is immeasurable. In addition, the album starts with a gentle “Devotion” that was not performed at Santa Monica. After all, it was a time when they were playing hard on stage every night to gain fans, so their rough but energetic performance is truly wonderful. It is even more so when you hear it with such sound quality. Celebrating the upgrade of the 70th Faces’ best audience for the first time in 20 years, not only the title but also the artwork is a homage to the predecessor HIWATT album, which will make enthusiasts cry! The audience album, which has an overwhelming quality of impact that is paired with Santa Monica, is of a quality that can be enjoyed with confidence not only by enthusiasts but also by beginners. The performance and sound quality are absolutely the best! Recorded from the sound source with the Original Master! The sound quality is the same as the 30th performance SANTA MONICA, or even better, a very close mono Aud sound source. Pitch correction and slight phase correction have been made. There are no problems with the bandwidth, so it is basically untouched. It is such a superb sound. Compared to previous HIWATT albums, the intro is over a minute and a half longer, and there is one less cut between the songs before Maybe I’m Amazed.
