Description

THE FACES’ Oceania tour, which was realized only once in history. The treasure master who conveys the scene unearthed three performances at once. It will appear in a big set of four discs. This work is recorded “January 27, 1974: Auckland performance” and “February 1 + 9: Sydney performance”. It is a vintage audience recording. Speaking of 1974, it is a year that will be remembered for the legendary first visit to Japan. In order to imagine the situation around there, let’s first look back at the tour at that time. 《January 10th “COAST TO COAST” released》・January 27th – February 9th: Oceania (7 shows)←★Here★・February 15th – 20th: Japan (4 shows)・February 28th: Indianapolis show・July 6th + August 17th: Europe #1 (2 shows)《September 13th “I’VE GOT MY OWN ALBUM TO DO” released》・September 13th – October 6th: Europe #2 (4 shows)《October 4th “SMILER” released》・October 18th – 24th: Northern Europe (3 shows)・November 15th – December 23rd: UK (10 shows)←※Official video 1974 began with the release of “COAST TO COAST”, and immediately after that, they toured Oceania. It was a flow that led to the legendary first visit to Japan. Not only was it the only one for THE FACES, but it was also Rod Stewart’s first time in Oceania (the members of SMALL FACES had already experienced it in 1968). Of the Oceania tours, three performances are recorded in this work. The recording times vary, so let’s zoom in on the dates. New Zealand, January 27: Auckland ←★DISC 1 (only the second half)★ Australia, January 31: Brisbane, February 1: Sydney ←★DISC 2★, February 3: Melbourne, February 5: Adelaide, February 8: Melbourne, February 9: Sydney ←★DISC 3-4★ A total of seven performances. The Auckland recording on DISC 1 is only the second half of the show, but the other two Sydney performances are recorded almost in full view (although strictly speaking there is a little bit of missing recording). All three performances are basically the same set, with different songs recorded depending on the recording part. Here we will organize the basic set and the missing parts of each performance. [Basic set] First half of the show: It’s All Over Now / I’m Losing You / Angel / True Blue / Stay With Me / I’d Rather Go Blind / Memphis Tennessee / My Fault / Too Bad (incl. drum solo / Every Picture Tells A Story) Second half of the show: You Wear It Well / Maggie May / I Wish It Would Rain / Borstal Boys Medley (Around The Plynth, Gasoline Alley, Amazing Grace, Borstal Boys) / Twisting The Night Away Final song: Pool Hall Richard / We’ll Meet Again [Missed recording parts] ・ Auckland performance (DISC 1): The above “first half” is not recorded. ・ Sydney first day (DISC 2): Only the above “final song” is not recorded. ・ Sydney second day (DISC 3-4): Ends in the middle of “Pool Hall Richard”. …And so it is. The overview alone has become excessively long, but the biggest point of this work is the sound that conveys these three performances. This is really wonderful. After all, Gene is the ultimate enemy. Only the Auckland performance (DISC 1) seems to be the 1st Gene, but the Sydney 2 performance is the original master released by the recorder himself. And the recording itself is also wonderful. The Auckland performance (DISC 1) is an open stadium like a field without a ceiling or even walls, and the first day of Sydney (DISC 2) is also a special stage set up at an outdoor racetrack. A powerful core with zero echo jumps into your hand, and there is no cloudiness or turbidity at all. If there were no recording leaks, it would be a superb sound that would have been pressed without question. On the other hand, only the second day of Sydney (DISC 3-4) picks up the hall sound only at the indoor venue, but it is a work with the same taper as the first day of Sydney (DISC 2), and it is still exceptionally clear for a 1970s recording. Due to the long recording time, it is a masterpiece recording that cannot be ignored. The Auckland performance (DISC 1), where you can enjoy the vivid sound unique to outdoor venues, the first day in Sydney (DISC 2), and the second day in Sydney (DISC 3-4), which is attractive for its long length of over 90 minutes. It is a 4-disc set that includes valuable vintage masters. A big set that allows you to fully enjoy the passionate performance just before the legendary first visit to Japan. A live album set of the Oceania tour that took place just before the legendary first visit to Japan. A masterpiece audience recording of “January 27, 1974: Auckland performance” and “February 1 + 9: Sydney performance”. The Auckland performance (DISC 1) is the 1st generation, and the Sydney 2 performance is a masterpiece created from the original master released by the recorder himself. The Auckland performance (DISC 1) and the first day in Sydney (DISC 2) are outdoor venues, so the powerful core with zero echo jumps into your hands, and the sound is superb without any cloudiness or turbidity, while the second day in Sydney (DISC 3-4) has a recording time of over 90 minutes. It’s a big set that allows you to fully enjoy the passionate performance just before the legendary first visit to Japan.
