Description

Two vintage cassette masters have arrived from the heavyweight Taper, a British resident famous for providing Eric Clapton’s treasured sound source! They were from the 1974 comeback US tour, and both were low-generation soundboard masters of PA out leaked from the tour staff. Our shop has just released “Tempe 1974” and “Hampton 1974” as low-generation cassette masters from this heavyweight Taper. Customers who have listened to them will understand the degree of upgrade from the previous release, and this master did not disappoint. You will surely be satisfied with this quality, which is still fresh after 44 years, which was obtained only because of the heavyweight Taper’s connections. The first one is the main board recorded with the finest stereo soundboard recording of the part other than the final part of the concert held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on July 5, 1974. In Blues Power, as with the previous release, there are traces of tape changes at 0:19 and 7:00, but since there is almost no sense of incongruity, this is a negligible flaw. Some of the previous releases do not include Tell The Truth and Crossroads, but this is a master cassette, so these two songs are also included. Now, let’s take a look at how the performance on this day was positioned in this comeback year.・June 19th and 20th, 1974: Warm-up gigs in Northern Europe for the US comeback tour ・June 28th to August 4th, 1974: US tour ←★Here★≪August 5th, 1974: Album “461 OCEAN BOULEVARD” released≫ ・August to September, 1974: Album “THERE’S ONE IN EVERY CROWD” recorded in Miami ・September 28th to October 6th, 1974: Second US tour ・October 31st to November 6th, 1974: First Japan tour ・November 27th to December 5th, 1974: European tour This performance was the sixth performance after the warm-up gig in Northern Europe and the start of the tour. It can be said to be a valuable recording from the time when they had returned to the stage after a three-year retirement and had not yet got their feet on the ground. This US tour was famous for being drunk and daring to ease the tension of a long-awaited live stage. Therefore, even on the day of the main album, you can see the drunkenness, but it is surprising that Clapton’s playing quality was not low. The concert on this day was held like a festival in the local area, and Todd Rundgren and The Band appeared as opening acts. Clapton was the headliner after that, and meeting The Band, who he admired, must have been an uplifting event for Clapton. In addition to reuniting with them, who he had known since his Cream days, it was Robbie Robertson’s birthday, so after the opening number, Clapton was in a good mood and sang an impromptu birthday song dedicated to Robbie. After this concert, Robbie’s birthday party was held in the dressing room, and Clapton joined in and enjoyed it very much. What put a damper on Clapton’s good mood was an incident at Blues Power. Since it was July 5th, the day after the American Foundation Day, fans who had been making a lot of noise the day before lit the fireworks they had brought with them and threw them on the stage (at 1:38). The venue was a stadium, so a stage was set up and a canvas tent was set up on top of it. The fireworks were thrown on the roof of the tent. Clapton was furious at the fireworks that were shooting up on the roof of the tent (at 3:40). His angry announcement at this time was, “F*!k You, you c*&t! Whoever Threw That! Your F-ing Mother!”, “I’ll tell you one thing…your fucking aggrivation…these fireworks and things like that…NO WAY! It’s SILLY BEHAVIOUR!!! STOP IT!!!!! (“What are you doing! Throwing fireworks! Are you stupid!”, “I’m just telling you, there is no such stupidity. Stop it!”). According to eyewitness accounts, at this time, another customer threw a Frisbee, which hit Yvonne Elliman. Elliman can also be heard grumbling something during the song. It is impressive that the band continued playing during these events, but this was probably the only time in Clapton’s long career that he was furious on stage. This is a rare record of a day when there were many fun and infuriating things, even just in the first half. In terms of the set list, there is an unusual development in which Tell The Truth and Crossroads are played as a medley. The Chuck Berry number Little Queenie is even sharper than the take from the Long Beach performance of the same year that was included in the official version recently released as the soundtrack for Clapton’s biographical film “Life In 12 Bars” (that was a take when he was quite drunk). This master, which has good sound quality, good sound balance, and a solid sense of stereo separation, can be said to be the definitive version of this day. The master of the heavy taper had a rather high pitch due to problems caused by aging, but we have properly adjusted it to the normal pitch. We deliver it in the best condition with no problems at all. Three Rivers Stadium Pittsburgh, PA. USA 5th July 1974 STEREO SBD*UPGRADE(from Original Masters) (56:27) 1. Smile 2.
