Description

This is a 2CD complete recording of the Worcester, Massachusetts performance from the second leg of the 1985 “Behind the Sun American Tour” with the finest stereo soundboard recording. Speaking of the 1985 tour, it was a memorable tour in which Clapton almost overcame alcoholism and played with a fearless appearance. This sound source was previously released by our store in 2010 as a direct import title “HUNGER BURNING”, but that title was very popular due to its high quality and sold out quickly. Originally, it was a PA out source, and the sound image in 2010 had a narrow range and gave a sense of the times, so this time, we have thoroughly widened the range and remastered it for ease of listening in 2020. This will be an updated version release. It’s very clear, the sound balance is good, and the stereo separation is perfect. It’s a great mix with Jamie Oldacre’s tom rotation flowing from right to left. Moreover, there are no cut parts or missing songs that are common with PA output, and it is a complete recording, so it is a quality that can be recommended to everyone. [Charm of the second leg with a changed set list] This performance was the fifth performance of the second leg of the American tour. Let’s clarify the position of this performance in this year in chronological order.・February 28, 1985 – March 15, 1985: European tour including the UK During this time, ≪March 1, 1985: Album “BEHIND THE SUN” released≫ ・April 9, 1985 – May 3, 1985: US tour, first leg ・May 8, 1985: Appeared on the US music live show Late Night With David Letterman ・June 21 to July 27, 1985: US tour, second leg ←★Coco★ ・1985 October 5th to October 11th: 6th Japan tour ・October 14th to November 6th, 1985: Short-term European tour after visiting Alaska and London ・December 3rd to 23rd, 1985: For the time being Off, but during this time he appeared on stage at concerts with Buddy Guy & Junior Wells, Sting, Gary Brooker, Dire Straits, etc.Recording was completed the previous year and the album “BEHIND” was released on March 1st. THE SUN” and spent a year promoting this album, and this performance was the final leg of a tour that took them through the United States, their biggest market. You can see that Clapton organized two tours with particular emphasis on America in order to make his ambitious work a hit. By visiting the United States twice in separate legs, each leg was full of charm. The set list has changed. The second leg is characterized by featuring Cream’s famous song White Room for the first time in 17 years, and playing Badge and Let It Rain in a medley. The trigger for the former was his appearance on the American TV program “The David Letterman Show” on May 8th. In response to a request from Paul Schaffer, the show’s music director, for the first time in 17 years, he played White Room with the show’s house band (the house band included Steve Jordan, who would later support Clapton, on drums). ). Clapton, who was satisfied with this result, had this song set in from the second leg of the tour. There were four new songs from the album (Same Old Blues, Tangled In Love, She’s Waiting, Forever Man). Even if it is among the representative songs, it is not inferior to listening, and all of them are wonderful performances. It’s a number that can no longer be expected to be set in now, so you can feel Clapton’s spirit at the time when he was passionate about performing new songs. Also, as a second leg, it is also the sound source where you can listen to Marcy Levy’s featuring number She Loves You earliest in terms of schedule. Marcy’s song was changed from Something Is Wrong With My Baby to this song at this time. Clapton announces, “I’ll be leaving the stage for now, but I’ll be featuring Marcy Levy,” so you won’t be able to hear Clapton’s playing, but this Beatles number arranged at a slow tempo will feature Chris. Marcy’s ability to sing earnestly with only Stinton’s piano and Tim Renwick’s chord decomposition arpeggio play in the background stands out. On the other hand, in the feature number Steppin’ Out by Sean Murphy (later joined as lead vocalist of Little Feat), Clapton lingers on stage and decides on a sharp solo. What makes Clapton so great is that he includes a minor blues called Double Trouble in such a diverse set, and it can be said that the set list was well-balanced with representative songs, new songs, and blues, and fully conveyed Clapton’s charm. Sho. [Clapton’s outstanding singing ability and wave attack of aggressive guitar solo] I feel that Clapton’s singing has improved dramatically on this tour. The confident and dignified way he sings makes you feel the sex appeal of a man. Please listen carefully. Furthermore, the guitar solo is more aggressive than ever, and patterns that combine fast passages appear many times. This is very thrilling! In the opening, following the two songs that decided sharp slide play, I Shot The Sheriff’s solo after that appealed to the main condition as soon as possible, and the following Same Old Blues raised the tension at once. It’s surprising and interesting that White Room’s solo didn’t use the wah-wah pedal that was used on later tours, as was customary during the Cream era. It’s not like you can hear it because of the wah effect, but because of the strange phrasing. In that sense, it can be said to be a rare take. Tangled In Love, Badge, and Let It Rain are bursting with fast slow hand playing. Meanwhile, in De Bruce’s Double Trouble, Blackie is crying. When I listen to this play, I realize that Clapton is a blues guitarist after all. Layla’s solo after the performance is also passionate and passionate. Layla’s solo around this time is a good take that makes you realize how much effort she put into playing. There are two encore songs. From Forever Man, which can only be described as cool, to Further On Up The Road, where all members have solos, you will feel refreshed as Clapton runs with full throttle. [Top-class backing men only available at this time] The backing men include Stax’s famous bassist Donald Duck Dunn and Jamie Oldacre of Tulsa Tops, who have the strongest rhythm among Clapton’s all-time bands. -It was a time when there were two people who could be called a section. Please listen to the bouncy bass playing of the late Donald Duck Dunn, who supported Clapton only during this period, and the slow and dynamic drumming of the late Jamie Oldacre, along with Duck Dunn’s unique comments introducing Clapton. (Clapton seemed to really get along well with Duck Dan, and when he launched his own label in 1983, he named it “Duck Records”). Furthermore, it is also the only tour where you can listen to the play of Tim Renwick, a veteran British guitarist who later supported “Gilmore Pink Floyd”. His solid play without any mistakes is also a highlight. His unique play can be heard in the obbligato of I Shot The Sheriff and White Room, the second solo of Badge, Cocaine, and the closing solo of Forever Man. And let’s not forget Chris Stinton, who still supports Clapton. From the piano prologue at the beginning, not only the piano but also the organ and synthesizer play an active role. The bond between the two was strong even 35 years ago. It’s a wonderful stage where you can listen to the resounding tone of Blackie Strat as well as their support.
