Description
This album is from the 1988 world tour that Eric Clapton conducted to commemorate the 25th anniversary of his professional debut, and includes a very good performance of January 27th at his hometown Royal Albert Hall in London at the beginning of the year. It is recorded with a spacious monaural soundboard recording. This day was the third day of RAH9’s first consecutive performance of the year, which is customary at this time of year. The source is believed to be concert staff, a source called “PA Out.” This is recorded by the engineer at the console console in order to adjust the mix balance of the sound output from the PA at the concert venue. It is not needed once the concert is over, but it should be kept by the people involved. This is a sound source that should never be left out. As a result, the sound quality is often on par with the official live album, and this album is one of those sound sources. The problem is that recording is often stopped midway due to the engineer’s wishes, and this album also does not include the last main set, Layla, and the encore. However, you will be satisfied with the quality of the content. Speaking of 1988, Clapton was 43 years old (42 years old at this point). It was a tour where they were performing in a state of maturity, regardless of their bad years. At the time, Fender was supplying the prototype of the custom Stratocaster that would lead to today’s signature model, and it played a pewter gray finish Strat with a slightly effective tone. As the title suggests, “Amazing Solo,” Clapton plays aggressively as if celebrating his 25th anniversary with all songs. It seems that Clapton’s joy can be felt from the elegant solo with no stagnation at all. A topic exclusive to this tour was that Mark Knopfler, the leader and guitarist of Dire Straits, who had a mutual respect for Clapton, became an official band member to celebrate (incidentally, he was also a member of the Straits band). (He also brought in keyboardist Alan Clark.) This tour continued until the Japan tour in November, but it is valuable that the numbers that fell from the set list at that point were played at the beginning of this year. Run, Same Old Blues is that. In particular, the latter has been expanded to 16 minutes, including Nathan East’s bass solo, and in Clapton’s solo in the middle and final stages, you can sometimes hear amazing solos by stepping on the wah pedal.
