Description
This 1 hour and 33 minute DVD features high-quality audience footage of the May 20th performance, the first of Clapton’s 2024 Euro Tour highlights, a series of shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall. The camera is shot from the second-floor stands on the right side of the stage, using never-before-seen footage mastered from footage never before available online, allowing viewers to see the entire concert from never-before-seen angles. Another appealing aspect of this tour is the significantly revised setlist from last year, featuring several rare tracks and newly written songs. Given that Clapton has rarely tweaked his setlist in recent years, this is a welcome change for fans. It was also great to see him looking healthy even at 79 years old, and especially since he was playing at his home ground, the Royal Albert Hall, his playing was excellent from start to finish, his vocals were on point, and the set started with the instrumental number “Blue Dust,” which had been a hot topic at the Liverpool concert. Incidentally, this song was a variation on “Blue Rainbow,” dedicated to Beck, who passed away the previous year, and first performed at the Japan concert in April of the same year. Starting with a song that hadn’t even been recorded yet showed Clapton’s enthusiasm, and before the third song, “Hoochie Coochie Man,” John McLaughlin announced that Cossart was there to see him and called for applause. The final new song of the first half of the electric set, “Prayer of a Child,” was an adaptation of the instrumental track “Voice of a Child,” which was played at a charity concert in support of Gaza the previous year, with new lyrics added. After an acoustic break and then a return to the electric set, the first day also saw the performance of “Presence of the Lord,” and as a special performance, Nathan East played Lyle Mays’ “Close to Home” as a prologue before “Cocaine.”The entire show is full of highlights, making it a must-see for fans.
