Description

The Yokohama Arena performance on November 27, 2003 was completely recorded in a super high quality audience recording from the original master provided by the recorder. The best part of this tour was that it did not have a female vocalist, which became the norm the following year, and was performed with a core lineup of two guitars, keyboards, and five men in the rhythm section. That’s why it can be said that Clapton’s playing stood out on this tour, and the content was very attractive with a well-balanced mix of blues, rock numbers, and ballads, and it was an energetic tour in which 20 songs were played in a single performance. Another feature of the performance on this day was that Got My Mojo Working and Hoochie Coochie Man were played with slide play for the first time on this tour. Also, on this day, Robert Johnson’s Kind Hearted Woman, which was cut on the previous day’s performance, was revived. In addition, there was an accident in which Clapton told the roadie to replace the amplifier that was generating noise on Badge, but it would be fun to listen to that area. In terms of the stage composition, Clapton first appeared alone and started playing When You Got A Good Friend, which would be released the following year with the Robert Johnson Project. In the middle of this song, the band members stood by and transformed from a solo performance to a band sound in one go. Meanwhile, Clapton handed his Martin to his guitar tech and received a painted Strat called Crash No. 3 in return. He then started the concert with an exquisite composition of a medley of Crossroads as an electric version. This captured the audience’s hearts in one shot. After this song, he played I Shot The Sheriff to get the crowd excited, and then continued with an electric version of Bell Bottom Blues. It had been 28 years since the Osaka performance in 1975 that this song was played on an electric guitar. Then, in the acoustic number Change The World in the middle of the show, Martin debuted the newly developed Clapton model 000-ECHF “Bellezza Nera”. It was a beautiful Martin with a black body. In the second half, he captivated the audience by playing mainly his own rock numbers, and in the encore, just like the previous tour, he ended with a gentle performance of Somewhere Over The Rainbow, a theme song from a movie he was familiar with since childhood, on a Gibson L-5. It was a stage where a very well-crafted set list was played to perfection. From this tour, Clapton introduced JBL’s latest sound system, “VERTEC.” Many people will remember being captivated by the large speakers hanging from the ceiling of the hall. The powerful sound is captured here. Live at Yokohama Arena, Yokohama, Japan 27th November 2003 TRULY PERFECT SOUND(from Original Masters) Disc 1(61:41) 1. Intro. 2.
