Description
Eric Clapton’s respect and admiration for the late J.J. Cale was so high that fans were surprised, wondering, “Was Eric Clapton really praising him that much?” It can be said that one of the goals of his career, which has spanned 46 years since he featured Cale’s After Midnight on his first solo album released in 1970, was to “assimilate” Cale’s music. This is the precious recording of when Clapton finally invited the heavy-handed Cale to his own performance, and we will release it with the highest sound quality ever! This is a 2CD set that completely records the San Diego performance on March 15, 2007 with a good stereo audience recording. The audience source for this day was a previously released version titled “The Road To San Diego”. This time, we have obtained a “first-time first-generation master that is completely different from the previously released version,” which was obtained directly by the British heavyweight Taper from his core American Clapton enthusiast network. The previously released version was also recorded in stereo, but the recording position was a little far from the stage, and the sound was rough and hard. In addition, in After Midnight, the stereo sound field was suddenly recorded in extremely narrow mono, and there were some parts where the stereo phase changed instantly from stereo to mono. Furthermore, the difficulty was that there was a lot of audience noise, and in Cocaine, where Cale jumped in, there seemed to have been a quarrel near the recorder, and there was a fatal situation in which a high-pitched woman’s insult of “Get out!” was repeatedly included. The sound of this board also makes you feel a little distance from the stage, but compared to the previously released version, the stereo sound field is very wide, the scale and airiness of this venue are accurately reflected, and the sound is clear and fine, and the impression you get is completely different. In short, the entire work is recorded with a very easy-to-listen-to sound. There are no problems. The sitting session in the middle of the game, in which Cale participated, allows you to clearly hear the individual nuances of each person’s play, full of Clapton, Cale, and Derek Trucks. Moreover, there is almost no annoying audience noise. You will surely be pleased that a high-quality master that far surpasses the existing masters has been discovered here. This stage performance with J.J. Cale was Clapton’s last while Cale was alive (although there were studio performances after this). In fact, at the start of this tour, Clapton had asked Cale to join as a regular band member. However, there is an episode that Cale refused to participate, saying, “Such a flashy place doesn’t suit me. I’m more suited to staying in Tulsa and playing the music I like.” That’s why the stage on this day must have been a memorable and precious moment when Clapton’s own wish finally came true. This tour was carried out with a triple guitar lineup of Doyle Bramhall II and Derek Trucks, which continued from the previous year. The nostalgic electric Layla is played with great force, and the three consecutive numbers from the Derek & The Dominos era, Got To Get Better In A Little While, Little Wing, and Anyday, are also powerful. Even more exciting, Robert Cray, who was the opening act of this tour, jumped into the encore Crossroads and competed with Clapton on lead vocals and guitar solos. This Crossroads is also very powerful. With this sound quality, we assure you that even those who already have the released version will be worth buying again. Please enjoy the last live performance of the late J.J. Cale and Clapton with the new master with the highest sound quality ever. Live at iPay One Center, San Diego, CA.
