Description
We have a lineup of the masterpiece “461 OCEAN BOULEVARD” released in 1974, which effectively established Eric Clapton’s status as a solo artist and became a big hit at number one on the US album chart! The album was released in November 1993, two months after the release of Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs. Like “Layla~”, it was produced in limited quantities by borrowing the American 2-track original master tape from Polygram Records (now Universal) at the time, but if you look closely at the track list, you will notice that it is different from the original LP. You may have noticed that Originally, in the position of Give Me Strength, which was the second song, Better Make It Through Today, which is included in “THERE’S ONE IN EVERY CROWD”, which is the next work of this work, is included. And Give Me Strength is included in the last song. This is the same as the first edition CD of the same work released in the United States in 1988. In other words, this CD was produced from an original two-track analog master tape borrowed from Polygram, in order to faithfully reproduce even the bonus tracks, following the American first edition CD released in 1988. The content is the same as the American first edition CD, but the sound is faithful to the original analog edition. Some fans may find it strange that Better Make It Through Today is heard after Motherless Children, which is different from the song list on the original analog version, but considering that “THERE’S ONE IN EVERY CROWD” has not been released. It can be said that this is the only album where you can listen to Better Make It Through Today in CD quality, making it enjoyable even for enthusiasts. In terms of sound, normal CDs emphasize the high and low ranges and are poor in the midrange, giving the often-sounding “thumpy” impression, but this CD is similar to the “Layla~” CD. , giving the impression that all ranges are well-balanced and harmonious. In particular, the sound of the first media known as the “compact disc” had a sharp treble that pierced the ears, which was once misunderstood as “clear.” In comparison, on this CD, the clarity of each instrument and the delicate sound of the vocals stands out. In other words, this was the result of faithfully reproducing the original analog master. On the other hand, the master used on this disc was originally the master tape of the original US version used by Atco Records in 1974 when they produced this work, but as I mentioned last week, Universal In the big fire that occurred in 2008, most of the artists’ original American master tapes were destroyed, and this American analog master tape of “461” was also destroyed, so the US master is no longer available with higher sound quality than the main version. It is now impossible to remaster. If you think about it that way, I think it’s good to have a taste of the sound of this board at least once.
