Description

With the release of the movie “Rocketman,” Elton John is attracting attention from the silver screen world. Introducing a soundboard album where you can enjoy his debut era. This work includes “Cleveland Performance November 26, 1970”. This is a soundboard recording by the pre-broadcast master. Speaking of Elton at the time, he was rapidly rising to stardom with the successive hits of “ELTON JOHN” and “TUMBLEWEED CONNECTION.” Let’s look back at the overview of the so-called “1970 WORLD TOUR” and check the show’s position. ・March 25th + April 7th: London (2 performances) [“ELTON JOHN” released on April 10th] ・April 21st – August 14th: Europe (15 performances) ・August 25th – September 12th: USA #1 (15 performances) ・October 2: London performance [“TUMBLEWEED CONNECTION” released on October 30th] ・October 29th – December 5th: USA #2 (22 performances) ←★Here ★ ・December 20th: London performance This is Elton in 1970. Although it’s a “world” tour, most of it will be in the UK and the US. Other than that, there were only one performance in Sweden and one in Belgium. In such a situation, this work was held in Cleveland immediately after the release of “TUMBLEWEED CONNECTION”. This was the 16th concert of “USA #2”. This show was recorded for broadcast. This work is not an air check, but a soundboard album that was made into a CD from the leaked digital master before the broadcast. Its quality is excellent. Although it is a monaural vintage soundboard, the freshness that does not go through radio waves, let alone dubbing, is really vivid and fresh. It has a direct feel as it is connected directly to the table and you can’t really feel the breath of the audience, and not only the singing voice but also the simple piano trio ensemble flows out to the core. Its vividness is a real sound board that is even more like a studio live than a concert. There are plenty of famous songs from the early days that are depicted with that sound. When it starts with “Bad Side Of The Moon”, which was the B-side song of the single “Border Song”, I get dizzy with the rich scent of 1970, but it is still just the beginning. After that, famous songs unique to the early 70s continued, such as “Country Comfort”, “Amoreena”, and “Can I Put You On?” (unreleased at the time), which was featured in the movie “Friends: Paul and Michelle”. It jumps out to the next one. Of course, we will also play classics such as “Your Song”, “Take Me To The Pilot” and “Burn Down The Mission”, but these are dazzling fresh performances as if they were new songs. And the second half of the show is where the rich sense of rareness explodes even more. Taking the opportunity of the Stones’ “Honky Tonk Women”, they immediately went into cover time. “Burn Down The Mission” led me to Arthur Crudup’s “My Baby Left Me,” followed by John Lennon’s “Give Peace A Chance” and SLY & THE FAMILY STONE’s “I Want To Take You.” They also performed a medley that fell into “Higher”. The arrangement is rare, but each song is also valuable. You can enjoy the performance unique to the early days with a sound board that is directly connected to your brain. In 1970, Elton John was on the verge of a golden age and a huge surge in his career. It is a masterpiece of a live album where you can enjoy delicious masterpieces from such early days on a close-up soundboard. A picture of a youthful 23-year-old Elton that invades your brain.
