We have no choice but to have “that” that symbolizes EL & POWELL appear. Yes, it is the “Lakeland performance on October 4, 1986”, a masterpiece sound board that has even moved the official with its super famous sound source! Of course, this show is a super famous sound board that goes without saying. It is a “symbolic sound source” that has produced many existing releases in its long history and is also the official version “LIVE IN CONCERT”. However, since we are introducing it in this way, this work is not just a thing. It is a superb board reprinted from the original broadcast radio show disc. You may hear the voice saying, “No matter how much of a radio show disc there is an official version…”, but the story is not so simple. In fact, there are several crucial flaws in the official version. First of all, it is incompletely recorded. The broadcast itself is incomplete, but on top of that, “Learning To Fly” was also cut. Considering the recording time, it should be enough to fit on one CD, but it was cut and turned into the compilation version “FROM THE UNDERGROUND”. What’s more, the editing is a mystery. Each song is faded one by one, cutting the show into pieces (who would benefit from doing something like that?). In contrast to the official version, which is unclear, this work is a genuine broadcast master. There is a cut of “Tarkus” that was not broadcast, and fade processing between the songs “Pirates” and “Knife Edge” that occurred due to the frame, but it is almost the entire show. It also includes “Learning To Fly”, which has not been officially recorded, and “Pictures At An Exhibition”, which was broadcast separately, is also included. It is a disc that covers the existing Lakeland sound board with the highest quality and maximum scale. The wonderful thing about EL & POWELL depicted by that sound is… As mentioned in the commentary on the main press CD, this show was an unsatisfactory live show for Cozy, but it was probably mixed with regret that “it was broadcasted with great care, but it couldn’t be the best…” It may not be the pinnacle, but it fully demonstrates the awesomeness of EL&POWELL. The powerful performance and huge spectacle are incomparable to the studio album “EMERSON, LAKE & POWELL” and the rehearsal album “THE SPROCKET SESSIONS”. To be honest, those who have only listened to these two albums because they were attracted by the word “studio” (although there may not be such a person), do not know the true nature and essence of EL&POWELL. Their true essence can only be found in live performances. Why are they still loved after more than 30 years, why are there fans who are more fascinated than the original EL&P, and even maniacs who say that this is “the pinnacle of Cozy”? This live album tells the reason more eloquently than a thousand words through music. With all my heartfelt respect, I would like to call the virtuoso Emerson the “Jimi Hendrix of the keyboards”, Lake who was the “face” of the two major bands KING CRIMSON and EL&P, and Powell who brought out their scale and dramaticism to the limit. This is a piece that allows you to experience the true value of the “miracle trio” on the highest peak of existing soundboards.
