Description

A new live album that updates the highest peak of the “miracle trio” has been excavated! EL&POWELL is a super unit that showed off huge-scale progressive rock with the help of Cozy Powell, a drummer who loves drama and classical music. Although it collapsed after only one album and an 11-week tour, the live records that remain are a collection of amazing masterpieces. The Lakeland performance, which was also made official, is famous, but the other audience recordings are also all masterpieces with abnormally high quality sound. Our shop has also delivered masterpieces such as “FABULOUS SHOW (Virtuoso 073/074)”, “HEADING FOR GLORY (Virtuoso 091/092)”, “TOUR ’86 (Virtuoso 276/277)”, etc. that are “soundboard-like”. This work is one of those works… no, it is a super sound that surpasses it! This work includes the “October 14, 1986 Boston performance”. B-rank recordings have long been known among core collectors, but this work is completely different. It is a new recording released very recently by the prestigious “Kro_Co”. Before we get to the quality, let’s first understand the position of the show. ・August 15-24: North America #1 (7 performances) – 1 week later – ・September 1-October 5: North America #2 (20 performances) – 1 week later – ・October 12-November 2: North America #3 (17 performances) ←★Here★ This is the whole picture of the only EL&POWELL tour. There was only one North American leg, but if you look closely, it was divided into three with a one-week break in between, and the Boston performance of this work was the third concert of “North America #3”. Now, on to the main topic. The biggest and strongest point of this work is the abnormally high quality sound! In fact, the first half of the show was completely overlooked, and it was recorded halfway through “Tarkus”, which is an incomplete recording, but it’s still a super sound that can’t be helped without pressing it. Frankly, it’s a masterpiece. There’s no doubt that it’s an audience recording from the vivid applause between songs, but the performance sound is “like a sound board”. It’s a word that is often used to mean “sound board-like”, but this time it’s not. In fact, the master that appeared on the Internet had a slight chip at the beginning of “Touch and Go”, which was complemented by the Lakeland sound board. However, I don’t know how to connect it! It’s not just “like” but “I don’t know the difference from the official”. The show depicted by that sound is also amazing. Cozy is a very meticulous person and wrote a diary during the tour, so he keeps a record of the performance of each night’s show. According to the diary, this day was a whopping “9.5 points (out of 10)”. The Lakeland performance, which is famous for the official version, was “3 points”, so it was a very satisfying show. And the live performance that flows from this work is evidence of the sound that proves that it was not self-satisfaction. EL&POWELL had been developing a huge spectacular show every night, but the sharpness of this day was no joke. Each phrase is Cozy’s mark, and in a word, a habit. However, it drives a wedge into the EL&P masterpieces and makes them grandiose. This sense is Cozy’s life. There are many drummers who are more technical than him, but there is no drummer who can “produce” so passionately and majestically. Tony Iommi said, “Percussive drummers are no good when they’re bad, but they’re amazing when they get into it. Cozy is that kind of style,” and this work is the pinnacle of that. And the American audience who witnessed it was also wonderful. The venue was packed with EL&P fans, and it was clear that they were overwhelmed by Cozy’s awesomeness as they played each song. And at the drum solo of “Mars”, the cheer of “Cozy! Mothefucker!!!” flies out… It may seem like a dirty word, but it’s not an insult. The timing of the solo’s highlight, and above all, the excited tone of the voice, it’s clear that he is excited. Moreover, this cheer is (probably) the person who recorded it. With such high quality sound, he should be quite used to recording, but still, he forgot that he was recording and shouted because of how amazing Cozy is… That’s how amazing it is! And as soon as the solo ends, the applause spreads widely throughout the venue. Such a mood is engraved in a super clear and super realistic way. In the fanfare announcing the end of the concert, this work closes with the voices of excited “ELP! ELP!” and “Cozy! Cozy! Mothefucker!!”. It’s a pity that it wasn’t recorded in its entirety. It’s frustrating. However, even if the length is inferior to the past masterpieces, the peak value is higher than any record. Sound, performance, and reality. EL&POWELL’s masterpiece that is the best ever in every point. It is born now after 31 years! Live at Opera House, Boston, MA. USA 14th October 1986 ULTIMATE SOUND (68:15) 1. Tarkus 2.
