Description
DREAM THEATER is currently on a world tour in support of their new work “DISTANCE OVER TIME”, which marks their 30th anniversary since their debut. The latest and best video is now available. This work was filmed at the “Moscow performance on June 11, 2019.” This is an audience shot that captures the whole picture. Along with the release of “DISTANCE OVER TIME” in February, a reenactment show of “METROPOLIS, PART 2: SCENES FROM A MEMORY” was also announced and became a hot topic, but in order to confirm the circumstances surrounding it, we will first show the 2019 show. Let’s check the show’s position from the activity summary. [“DISTANCE OVER TIME” released on February 22nd]・March 20th – May 4th: North America (28 performances) ・June 7th – July 26th: Europe (35 performances) ←★Here★ This is now The 2019 schedule has been announced. The “SCENES FROM A MEMORY” reproduction tour was the solo “North American” leg, and this work was the “European” leg that took place afterwards. This was a regular style show rather than a reproduction of the album, as the schedule was to include summer festivals in Europe. The Moscow performance of this work is the beginning. This was the third concert of “Europe”. This work, which records such a show, is a truly exquisite audience shot. What’s surprising is how close it is! After all, it was so close that I couldn’t make out its position. Judging from the angle, you can see that the stage is slightly to the right (close to John Petrucci), but each member is closely attached and there is no sense of distance. I don’t think he’s in the front row because his raised arm barely touches the screen, but he’s probably in the 2nd or 3rd row. All members’ busts are so close that they almost pop out of the screen. And a sense of stability. Because they are so close together, I have to shake them from side to side to capture the highlights of each member, but it makes a sharp sound. Judging from the way it moves at the moment you start scrolling and the way it moves horizontally, it feels like you’re using a tripod. No matter how common it is to photograph the audience, using a tripod while seated so closely is a bold move… Furthermore, the sound is also superb. Only at the very front, the thick core looms large, and the hall noise is minimal. The wildly dancing odd time signatures and intertwined phrases are all clearly detailed, giving a sense of three-dimensionality. Although there is a close angle, the scale and spectacle of the show is not felt so much, but the synchronization with the five people is an absolutely superb image. The show depicted with its visual beauty is also wonderful. As mentioned above, in the “North American” leg, it was a “SCENES FROM A MEMORY” reproduction show, but there it was composed of two parts: the album part and the regular part. The “European” leg currently underway is an expansion of that regular part. The split between new songs and classics is about 50/50, with “Untethered Angel”, “Fall Into the Light”, “Barstool Warrior”, and “Pale Blue Dot” from “DISTANCE OVER TIME” selected, and classics from “Lie” from “AWAKE” to “BLACK”. There are six songs from the Mike Portnoy era, including “A Nightmare to Remember” from “CLOUDS & SILVER LININGS” (perhaps because they just celebrated their 25th anniversary, there are no songs from “IMAGES AND WORDS”). In particular, the two songs “A Nightmare to Remember” and “In the Presence of Enemies, Part I” are the first numbers to enter the set after being replaced by Mangini. Two years have passed since the last performance in Japan. We are all anxiously awaiting news of his arrival in Japan, and this superb video is perfect for quenching that thirst.
