Description
DIO in 1999, who had decided to return to fantasy but had not yet reached “MAGICA”. A new live album that allows you to experience the maniacal “gap” era at its finest is here. This work is recorded from the “November 16, 1999 Gothenburg performance”. It is an excellent audience recording. 1999 was the turning point when Tracy G was replaced by Craig Goldy, but there were many other small member changes. Even with a slight difference in time, the members are different, so let’s first look back at the schedule at that time and check the show’s position. 1998 February 24 “INFERNO: LAST IN LIVE” released. May 19-22: North America #1 (3 shows) {Vinny Appice leaves → Simon Wright returns} May 23-July 14: North America #2 (37 shows) August 2-3: North America (2 shows) September 20-October 22: Europe #1 (25 shows) {Larry Denison leaves → Bob Daisley replaces} October 23-November 7: Europe #2 (12 shows) 1999 {Bob Daisley → Larry Denison returns} March 4-5: Russia (2 shows) {Tracy G → Craig Goldie returns} June 12-20: Europe #3 (7 shows) {Larry Denison → Jimmy Bain returns} *However, the tour is with Chuck Garrick November 9-30: Northern Europe (16 shows) ←★Here★ This is DIO in 1998/1999. In fact, there had been many member changes before this, but in early 1998, they returned to the same members as in “INFERNO”, so I’ll try to organize them from there. The important changes were Vinnie’s departure in May 1998 and Tracy’s departure in spring 1999. Other changes were of the type where they “took whoever was free on the schedule to tour”, but these two never returned to DIO again. Anyway, Craig returned in June 1999, and Jimmy Bain in September. They were about to depart for tour with the “DREAM EVIL” team, but a situation occurred where Jimmy could not tour outside of the United States. Jimmy remained as an official member, and Chuck Garrick was brought in to help them and they carried out a mini tour in Scandinavia (sigh, it’s complicated). The Gothenburg performance in this work was the final stage of such a turbulent 1999. It was the sixth concert of the “Nordic” leg. This work, recorded at such a show, is a new recording that was recently unearthed. In fact, it is the much-talked-about “Barrhult” collection. Some of you may already know what it is. Yes, it was recorded on the same day and at the same venue as MOTORHEAD’s masterpiece “GOTHENBURG 1999 (Shades 1488),” which we introduced last week and received positive reviews. It is a sister work recorded by the same person one after the other. And the sound is also very similar. Due to the sound output, it is not as metallic as MOTORHEAD, but the neat sound and the strength of the core that penetrates the center are the same. Of course, there is no dubbing mark on the ultimate freshness awakened from the original cassette recorded by “Barrhult” history, and you can enjoy a fresh sound without distortion or twisting from corner to corner. The natural and rich sound depicts a utopia of heavy metal style that seems to have revived the 80s. The set is short because it is a festival tour with four groups, MOTORHEAD, MANOWAR, and LION’S SHARE, but there are some rare songs mixed in, so let’s organize them here. DIO (9 songs) Holy Diver: Straight Through The Heart / Don’t Talk To Strangers / Holy Diver / Rainbow In The Dark Last In Line: I Speed At Night / The Last In Line Sacred Heart: Rock ‘N’ Roll Children / King Of Rock And Roll Strange Highways: Evilution Others (4 songs) Rainbow: Stargazer / Man On The Silver Mountain / Long Live Rock ‘N’ Roll Sabbath: Heaven And Hell … and so on. A long-awaited revival of “Rock ‘N’ Roll Children” and “King Of Rock And Roll” with a lineup of 80’s masterpieces. Among the golden repertoire, “Evilution” and “I Speed At Night” stand out. The former is the only thing left by Tracy, and Craig only plays his song on this tour, “Evilution”. The biggest point is “I Speed At Night”. It has been played since the end of the Tracy era, but Craig is definitely the one who meets the sharp and fast-paced song. His phrasing is even smoother than that of the originator Vivian, and the edge is as sharp as a razor and cuts through the battle in a flash, which is really cool. DIO, who remembered his breathing with Craig on this tour, started working on his ambitious work “MAGICA”. He decided to aim for a full-scale return to fantasy. The “MAGICA Tour” drew praise and criticism for the reproduction of the new work, but this work is a regular style show with some rare songs. The delicious representative songs and the momentum of the return to fantasy are fresh. This is a superb audience recording of the live album “November 16, 1999 Gothenburg Performance”, where you can experience the scene with the hot topic of new excavation masters. The much-talked-about “Barrhult” collection is a sister work of MOTORHEAD’s “Shades 1488” recorded on the same day, at the same venue, and by the same person. The neat sound and the strength of the core that penetrates the center are wonderful, and the ultimate freshness from the original cassette makes it fresh and distortion-free from corner to corner. You can fully experience the delicious show with the long-awaited “Rock ‘N’ Roll Children” and “King Of Rock And Roll” and the precious Craig versions of “Evilution” and “I Speed At Night”.
