Description
A 3-disc set containing the complete recordings of the afternoon show and evening show on November 20, 1970 at Santa Monica has been released! First (Disc 1) contains the afternoon show. The golden set list starts with “Got To Get Better In A Little While”. The moment when the somewhat subdued intro riff suddenly sparks is moving. The guitar playing that spins phrases one after another in a relaxed and flowing manner is truly in the realm of God. Clapton’s vocals are also wonderful. In “Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad”, the sad vocals are followed by a guitar solo that makes your soul cry, a heart-shaking masterpiece. “All Night Long” is a light-hearted number also known as “Derek’s Boogie”, and Delaney Bramlett is guested to perform a performance that shows the essence of swamp rock. (Disc 2) and (Disc 3) contain the evening show. The intro starts with the band tuning up and itching to start playing, followed by an announcement introducing the band. The opening is a little faster than the afternoon show, showing how well the Dominos were doing at this time. The highlight of this evening show is probably “Stormy Monday,” which is the title of this work, and is connected like a thread from the ending of “Blues Power.” It is a wonderful performance with a bluesy atmosphere and a wonderful fusion of sensual vocals and blues guitar. On the original analog record, it was recorded across sides A and B, and even on the previously released version, there was a cut in the middle, which made the song structure feel strange, but on this work, it can be heard in full length for the first time due to editing. The ending is “Everyday I Have The Blues.” Although the title is blues, the melody is a good rock and roll arrangement, and the way the vocals are sung in turns conveys that they are truly enjoying the performance. The sound source used throughout the album is the recently unearthed low generation master. This is a high-quality audience recording that can be said to be the definitive version of this performance, which has many titles, and the difference in generation is clear at first listen. It can only be said that it is a miracle that such a sound source of sound quality has remained. You will surely be amazed at how vivid the sound quality is. Originally, the PADDINGTON label created a natural sound without relying on equalization, and this time it is recorded with a natural sound quality that respects the original freshness of the master. Of course, since it is presented as a product, the minimum amount of work has been done, such as pitch adjustment and correction of cut parts, but in terms of sound quality, there is probably nothing better.
