Description
The complete soundboard album from the “HYSTERIA” era is making a huge comeback! This masterpiece of a DEF LEPPARD live performance, transcending official and unofficial records, will be released on 2 CDs! This masterpiece was recorded at the Denver performance on February 13, 1988. Yes, that’s the same live performance that was filmed for the official video work “IN THE ROUND IN YOUR FACE.” While the official video was an incomplete version with some cuts, this work is different. It’s a transcendental stereo soundboard recording of the full show. This work is both a genuine “HYSTERIA live edition” and “DEF LEPPARD’s ultimate live album.” Since it’s a work of paramount importance to everyone, for those who are wondering, “Were there videos during the HYSTERIA era?”, let’s first check the show’s position in the overview of their activities at the time. 1987 June 24-28: Europe #1 (3 performances) {“HYSTERIA” released on August 3rd} August 27-September 17: UK (17 performances) October 1-December 31: North America #1a (61 performances) 1988 January 2-February 16: North America #1b (25 performances) ←★here★ March 1-April 22: Europe #2 (37 performances) May 17-24: Japan (5 performances) May 27-October 27: North America #2 (88 performances) A complete soundboard from the “HYSTERIA” era that surpasses the official version This is the overall picture of the culmination of the “HYSTERIA World Tour”. Speaking of 1988, the performance in Japan after Golden Week is also nostalgic, but this Denver performance was the 23rd performance of “North America #2b”, three months earlier. This concert marked the end of a lengthy US tour that spanned the New Year holidays. As mentioned above, this show was officially filmed and released as the video work “IN THE ROUND IN YOUR FACE,” but later a complete soundboard was released. It was a super soundboard that not only recorded the entire live performance but also the soundcheck from the day. The quality is as impressive as the official video, but the sheer volume of songs is what’s most overwhelming. Let’s organize the setlist and get a feel for how long it is. Fiery Target (7 songs): Stagefright / Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop) / Too Late For Love / Die Hard The Hunter / Foolin’ / Rock Of Ages / Photograph Hysteria (8 songs, 10 takes): Women / Don’t Shoot Shotgun (★) / Hysteria / Gods Of War / Armageddon It #1 (★) / Animal / Pour Some Sugar On Me #1 (★) / Armageddon It #2 / Pour Some Sugar On Me #2 / Run Riot #1 (★: sound check) / Run Riot #2 (★: sound check) Others (5 songs): High & Dry: Bringin’ On The Heartbreak / Let It Go (★) Others: Tear It Down (★) / Travellin’ Band (★) / Honky Tonk Women (★: sound check) *Note: Songs marked with “★” are songs that could not be heard in the official video “IN THE ROUND IN YOUR FACE”. …and so it goes. You can hear four songs not included in the official video—”Don’t Shoot Shotgun,” “Let It Go,” “Tear It Down,” and “Travellin’ Band”—as well as a sound check, but that’s not all. Clips were also filmed that day, and two songs, “Armageddon It” and “Pour Some Sugar On Me,” were performed twice. This release also includes the first takes of both songs. This show was also released as a live album on the 30th anniversary edition of “HYSTERIA,” but that was merely a CD version of the short video. It doesn’t include any additional tracks like this release, and this release is overwhelmingly longer. These two CDs have been meticulously crafted to their ultimate form, and this release is also the longest version. The master recording leaked in the 1990s lacked the opening narration for “Stagefright,” but this release adds additional material from the official video. It appears that some of the live MC material was cut, likely due to the leak during the editing stage, but otherwise it’s flawless. Musically, this is a complete, full live album. There’s no need to fuss over the show or the performance at this point. The “HYSTERIA World Tour,” which became the darling of the era, couldn’t have been worse; it truly represents the pinnacle of DEF LEPPARD. This release is a massively expanded and complete version of the official soundboard, immersing you in that era. It’s truly a masterpiece of equal or greater value than “HYSTERIA.” It features a superb stereo soundboard recording of the “February 13, 1988 Denver performance.” This is the complete live album of the official video “IN THE ROUND IN YOUR FACE.” The leaked master sound rivals or exceeds the official video. It also includes four tracks not included in the video version: “Don’t Shoot Shotgun,” “Let It Go,” “Tear It Down,” and “Travellin’ Band,” as well as sound checks and clips like “Armageddon It” and “Pour Some Sugar On Me” (note that the official live album version is simply a separate video clip).
