Description

“CONCERTO FOR GROUP AND ORCHESTRA” was re-performed in 1999 with Ronnie James Dio also participating. The best pro shot has been decided to be released. This work was filmed on “September 25th + 26th, 1999 London performance”. This is a multi-camera professional shot created from two performances held at the same traditional venue “Royal Albert Hall” as 30 years ago. This show is widely known as an official video work, but of course this work is not a copy of the official product. This is the Japan Broadcasting version that was aired on a certain broadcasting association. This film is famous as a symbol of concerts performed with orchestras, but there were other orchestral performances during his long career. This is also a good opportunity, so let’s take a look at the history of collaboration between them and the orchestra. Phase II (1969/1970)・September 24, 1969: London performance・August 25, 1970: California performance・September 17, 1970: London performance Reorganization period (1998-2001)・1998 June 17th + 28th/July 2nd: Europe (3 performances) ・September 25th + 26th, 1999: London (2 performances)←★Coco★・September 1st-14th, 2000: North America (7 Performances) September 30th – November 3rd, 2000: Europe (22 shows) March 24th + 25th, 2001: Japan (2 shows) Reorganization period (2011) June 3rd – 24th, 2011 : North America (15 performances) ・July 16-29, 2011: Europe (8 performances) This is a joint performance of DEEP PURPLE & Orchestra. Particularly during the four years from 1998 to 2001, it was held frequently, and a world tour and performances in Japan were also realized. This work was a concert that was a precursor to that. Such a show was first released as a live album in February 2000, and a video version was released six months later in July. This work was broadcast in May 2000, during the interval. It’s not the familiar “Golden Western Music Live”…it’s a Japanese broadcast version that also includes the original Japanese subtitles and captions that were played at “Classic Club”. Although it is an analog master at the very limit of the times, the quality is top notch. As expected, there is a slight analog feel in the details compared to the official DVD, but as it was recorded and stored by core domestic enthusiasts, the visual beauty is excellent with no noise or distortion, and the analog feel has a unique warmth, giving it a “royal” feel.・It depicts the space of “Albert Hall”. The show depicted with its visual beauty is not only a re-performance of “Concerto for Group and Orchestra”, but also a wide selection of past hit songs, reorganization numbers, and extracurricular activities of the members. Let’s organize the contents here. Members’ solo songs: Jonlord “PICTURED WITHIN”: Pictured Within/Wait a While Roger Glover “THE BUTTERFLY BALL”: Sitting in a Dream (★) / Love Is All (★) CONCERTO FOR GROUP AND ORCHESTRA・Concerto for Group and Orchestra, Mov. 1/Mov. 2/Mov. 3 Other DEEP PURPLE songs・Period I: Wring That Neck・Period II: Pictures of Home/Smoke on the Water・Reorganization period: Ted the Mechanic/Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming/Watching the Sky *Note: Songs marked with a ★ are in which Ronnie James Dio participated. …and it looks like this. The show started with John’s “PICTURED WITHIN” and Roger’s “THE BUTTERFLY BALL,” followed by a replay of “Concerto for Group and Orchestra” with a big band arrangement of “Wring That Neck.” After that, it is a composition that advances to the regular number of DEEP PURPLE. Of course, the main role will be a re-performance of “Concerto for Group and Orchestra,” but you can’t miss the other numbers as well. Among them, the best ones are “Sitting in a Dream” and “Love Is All” in which Ronnie participated. In his main job, DIO, he is an aggressive metal singer, but in “Sitting in a Dream” his romantic charm is on full display. Her moist and smooth singing voice overflows with rich emotion, yet also has a virility that cannot be expected from ordinary ballad singers. Then, in “Love Is All”, Ronnie’s singing voice is dignified to the last, even though the song is bright and cheerful, making a song that would normally be comical sound magnificent. The sight of PURPLE and Ronnie standing side by side is enough to touch your heart, but the singing voice is also an irresistible video work. It was too long just for Ronnie, but of course John Lord’s masterpiece “Concerto for Group and Orchestra”, which challenged the big idea of “fusion of rock and classical music”, is overwhelming, and it is expanded magnificently with orchestra. The PURPLE number is also wonderful. It is a masterpiece that allows you to enjoy all of this with the finest multi-camera professional shots. For those who own the official version, this is a different version with unique subtitles and the feeling of broadcasting in 2000, and for those who have never experienced it, this is a piece that will surprise you once again with the richness of PURPLE’s music world.
