Description
DEEP PURPLE was restarted in 1984 when the “Golden Five” gathered. A collection of the best pro shots focusing on the 16 years since then has been decided to be released. The contents of this work are the official edition (?) “NEW, LIVE & RARE”. When I see this title, I am reminded of the 70’s EP series, Teichiku’s best album, official boot album, etc., but this work is not one of those. This is a professional shot DVD released in 2000. This label handles many minor works by the Purple Family, such as Jon Lord’s THE HOOCHIE COOCHIE MEN and Bob Daisley’s LIVING LOUD, and while it can’t be called unofficial, it’s a little hard to say it’s official. …That’s a subtle point. This is a video compilation of DEEP PURPLE produced by such a label. As the title suggests, the contents are a collection of professional shots from 1984 to 2000. There are no interviews or commentary corners, just professional shot footage being recorded in a casual manner. Starting with the PV for “Perfect Strangers”, which is famous for its attempted handshake, it is a chronological series of pro-shot videos that are familiar to enthusiasts, such as live performances in Sydney in 1984 and Paris in 1985. Some of them are professional shots that will be made official later, but bootleg level ones are also included, and the quality varies from song to song. I’m not sure if I’m recommending it or not, but when I actually watched it, I found it quite enjoyable. The quality of the bootleg footage is not bad at all, and there are songs like “Bad Attitude,” a re-recorded version of “Call Of The Wild,” “Hush,” and even “King Of” from Joe Lynn Turner’s era, which is often ignored officially. It is very convenient to be able to watch clips such as “Dreams” and “Love Conquers All” in the highest quality (there is even a bonus video featuring “Fire In The Basement” and “Fire, Ice & Dynamite (!)”). Even after Steve Morse joined, he continued to perform songs such as “Purpendicular Waltz,” “Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming,” and “Ted The Mechanic,” as well as live performances of “Blood Sucker,” “No-One Came,” and “When A Blind Man Cries.” It captures the delicious parts well. Even if you don’t want to sit down and watch a full live performance, you want to just pick up the highlights…a selection that seems to understand the psychology of this person. Moreover, because of the chronological order, you can feel the passage of time in the appearances of Ian Gillan and Jon Lord, and you can quickly follow their steps since their reunion (this work covers up to 2000, so Don… (Ailey does not appear). It’s a bit rough to call it an official work because it includes some boot footage (that’s probably why the Japanese version wasn’t released either), but the movie 1 depicts the 16 years from the reunion to Jon Lord’s departure. This is a professional shot history that I compiled in my main time (about 2 hours and 40 minutes). When it comes to video collections, attention is focused on the 70’s, and the reunion era tends to be overlooked. This is a video work that combines fragments of that era with superb quality and great performances. DEEP PURPLE – NEW, LIVE & RARE: THE VIDEO COLLECTION 1984-2000(161:04) 1.
