Description

The Joe Satriani era is a phantom canonical history that disappeared into the darkness of history without leaving any official works. The stereo soundboard album closest to that “official replacement” has been decided to be released. The Satriani era was truly a bubble. DEEP PURPLE brought back Ian Gillan in 1993 and released “Purple Crusade”, but Ritchie Blackmore suddenly left the group just before the Japan performance. In a pinch, they turned to master craftsman Joe Satriani for help and were able to continue their tour. I’m not going to go back to the details of what happened here, but some of you may have memories of learning about Richie’s departure at the Nippon Budokan scene and being dumbfounded. Even after the Japan performance, they continued touring. This is a good opportunity to take a look back at the overall picture of “Satriani DP”. 1993《“Purple Crusade” released on July 2nd》・September 21st-November 17th: Europe #1 (38 performances)《Blackmore leaves → Satriani joins》・December 2nd-8th: Japan (6 performances) 1994 – June 2nd – July 6th: Europe #2 (26 performances) ←★Coco★《November: Steve Morse joins》 This is DEEP PURPLE in 1993/1994. In addition to 6 performances in Japan, Satriani DP held a 26-performance European tour in early summer 1994. Only a total of 32 stages existed. This work is said to be the only professional record in such a fantastic era. This is a stereo soundboard recording of the “June 26, 1994 St. Gallen performance”, which is the 20th performance of “Europe #2”. This show is also known as Switzerland’s famous festival “St. Gallen Open Air”, so it was also broadcast on the radio. This work is the highest sound quality master. In fact, there are three types of air check masters of different lengths known for this broadcast, but the longer they are, the better the sound is. Although this work is the shortest with 10 songs, it has the best sound. However, it is still a little rough to be called “completely official grade”, but because it is a line, the feeling of close contact is tremendous. Satriani is also from the shredding generation, where shredding is a lot of work, so the thrill of being able to experience every detail of his techniques is irresistible. What’s more, Satriani’s passionate performance is highly praised by the other four members, and the heated ensemble and Gillan’s sharp shouts are directly connected to their ears. Let’s organize the set contents here. 70’s (6 songs)・In-rock: Speed King・Fireball・Machine Head: Maybe I’m A Leo/Pictures Of Home/When A Blind Man Cries/Smoke On The Water Reunion period (3 songs)・Perfect Strangers: Perfect Strangers/Purple Crusade: Ramshackle Man/The Battle Rages On…and it looks like this. “When A Blind Man Cries”, which is impossible for Richie, is wonderful, but even more than that, each song is revived vividly by Satriani’s guitar. Moreover, the performance is better than Japan. As per the above schedule, the performance in Japan was a sudden one, but it was a rush performance with no rehearsals. Making a show that doesn’t make you feel that way was unique to Satriani, but “Europe #2” is the real thing that was carefully rehearsed over a period of half a year. Their level of proficiency is incomparable to Japan. “Satriani DP” ended up being a phantom. There is no doubt that the later Moes are also wonderful, but the virtuosity of Satriani, who shined as the greatest guitar hero of his time, was extremely brilliant. I wish they would have kept at least one official live album…This is a masterpiece of a live album that brings back even the regret of it now. This is the only soundboard recording of “Satriani DP”, and it is packed with a passionate performance that exceeds the performance in Japan. Live at Open Air, St Gallen, Switzerland 26th June 1994 STEREO SBD 1. Ramshackle Man 2. Maybe I’m A Leo 3. Fireball 4. Perfect Strangers 5. Pictures Of Home 6. Keyboard Solo 7. The Battle Rages On 8.
