Description

The impactful soundboard that shocked collectors around the world two years ago has been brushed up! It will be released as a 2-CD set with mastering that has been refined to pursue the feel of the work! This work permanently preserves the “Springfield Performance on January 26, 1976.” This is a stereo soundboard recording. This work is a live album alongside the official traditional albums “LIVE AT LONG BEACH 1976” and “THIS TIME AROUND,” and together they form the “three major soundboards of the Tommy Bolin era.” It’s not just a masterpiece soundboard, but also serves as the “official complete edition.” To explain the circumstances, let’s first take a bird’s-eye view of the activities at the time and examine the relative positions of each of the three major soundboards. 1975 (October 10th release of “COME TASTE THE BAND”) November 8th: Honolulu performance November 13th-December 1st: Oceania (10 performances) December 4th + 5th: Indonesia (2 performances) December 8th-15th: Japan (4 performances) ← ※ Official THIS TIME AROUND December 19th: Hong Kong performance 1976 January 14th-March 4th: North America (34 performances) ← ★COCO★ March 11th-15th: UK (5 performances) (July 24th: DEEP PURPLE disbandment announcement) The complete soundboard excavated by our shop that surprised the whole world This is the overall picture of the IVth period of DEEP PURPLE, which welcomed Bolin. The official “LIVE AT LONG BEACH 1976” and this work are soundboards born from the “North American” leg. This Springfield performance was the ninth, taking place one month (21 shows) before “LIVE AT LONG BEACH 1976.” A complete soundboard from this show was a collector’s dream. The official “LIVE AT LONG BEACH 1976” bonus track included only three tracks: “Smoke on the Water,” “Going Down,” and “Highway Star,” inspiring collectors worldwide to dream of a complete version someday. And now, in 2023, that dream has come true. The complete soundboard master was unearthed through our own channels. Naturally, its impact spread worldwide, and the initial release quickly sold out and was discontinued. It’s now becoming a “modern-day holy grail,” difficult to obtain even secondhand. Meticulously mastered to perfection as a musical work. Naturally, such a cultural heritage cannot remain out of print. This new release features a full soundboard that has been meticulously remastered by GRAF ZEPPELIN, permanently preserved at the highest level of quality. The key to this release is the “feel of the work.” The original release, designed to broadly convey the truth of the newly discovered master, only required minimal sound processing, such as pitch adjustment. It was preserved in its original state. Meanwhile, the original sound was far from optimized for modern audio, and the balance was poorly balanced. Therefore, this time, these points have been meticulously adjusted, pursuing perfection as a musical work that can be listened to over and over again. Of course, it’s not a pointless, flashy sound. Because of GRAF ZEPPELIN’s natural-oriented mastering, distortions and noise have been thoroughly corrected while maintaining the essence. By restoring the sound of Deep Purple’s performance itself, the brilliance is restored. While the techniques used are diverse, perhaps the most effective were balance adjustments. Through frequency band analysis and adjustments, the clarity and definition of the sound are dramatically improved. Furthermore, the sound itself is more taut, with a bright, clear, and vibrant sound. Noise processing is also an important factor. There was some hum and hiss, especially towards the end, but it was beautifully treated (just enough to avoid affecting the performance sound). The key here is the stereo feel. The noise isn’t evenly distributed across the left and right sides, and this soundboard also had a slightly stronger right-hand side. Simply processing the noise would result in the right channel being quieter, but the “GRAF ZEPPELIN” mastering meticulously handled even these subtleties. Frequency band analysis ensures a balanced sound, while also ensuring a precise balance between the left and right channels. A reborn, full-length live album of Bohlin at his best. This reborn sound depicts a full show unique to the “COME TASTE THE BAND Tour,” unlike any other. The set is different from the official classic “LIVE AT LONG BEACH 1976,” so let’s compare them here. Come Taste the Band (5 songs + α) Lady Luck / Love Child / Gettin’ Tighter / This Time Around / Owed To “G” / Drifter (★) Others (6 songs + α) Phase II: Lazy / Smoke On The Water (incl. Georgia On My Mind) (*) / Highway Star (*) Phase III: Burn / Stormbringer Others: Homeward Strut / Going Down (*) *Note: * indicates songs that were bonus tracks on the official release. ★ indicates songs that cannot be heard on the official “LIVE AT LONG BEACH 1976” album. …And so it goes. The biggest attraction is undoubtedly “Drifter,” which was not heard on “LIVE AT LONG BEACH 1976.” Although it was on “THIS TIME AROUND,” unfortunately, Bolin was in poor form during the Japan tour. The “Drifter” soundboard, which showcases Bolin’s true talent, is Springfield’s exclusive. And the entire show is a masterful performance. Bolin excels in every song, incomparable to anything in Japan. In particular, “Gettin’ Tighter,” which was a hot topic at their debut, is breathtaking. While it usually lasts over 10 minutes, this performance reaches over 16 minutes. All of it is brought back to life with vivid sound… truly moving. While the previous release preserved the authenticity of the excavated soundboard master in its raw form, this release maximizes the potential of the original sound. While the previous release still shines in terms of the value of the sound source history, this release offers a simple yet cool experience of the IVth phase of Deep Purple. This is a top-notch, updated full-length live album. This is a stereo soundboard recording of the “January 26, 1976 Springfield Concert.” GRAF ZEPPELIN has refining the complete master we unearthed, which astonished the entire world. The clarity has improved dramatically, the sound itself is more taut, and the hum/hiss noise in the latter half has also been treated. “Drifter,” where Bolin’s true value explodes, is also an absolute board that allows you to enjoy a delicious full show with an upgraded sound that is full of work feeling. 1.
