Description
After the honeymoon period, DEEP PURPLE in 1988 was heading towards collapse again. A precious live album that conveys the unexplored era of the sound source is here. This work is recorded in “September 9, 1988, Florence performance”. It is an excellent audience recording. “THE HOUSE OF BLUE LIGHT” is also known for the fact that human relationships began to become strained again, but on the tour, Ritchie Blackmore had a problem with his hand injury. It was also temporarily suspended. First of all, let’s check the position of the show while unraveling the flow of that time. 1987 {January 12th: “THE HOUSE OF BLUE LIGHT” released} January 26th – March 8th: Europe #1 (28 shows) April 15th – May 30th: North America #1 (28 shows) {May 30th: Ritchie injures his left hand} August 19th – September 7th: Europe #2 (12 shows) 1988 {June: “NOBODY’S PERFECT” released} July 31st: Appearance at MONSTERS OF ROCK ITALY August 11th + 16th: North America #2 (2 shows) September 9th – 29th: Europe #3 (14 shows) ←★Here★ This is DEEP PURPLE in 1987/1988. The traditional official live album “NOBODY’S PERFECT” was produced from the early part of the tour, “Europe #1 / North America #1”, but the Florence performance of this work was the final leg more than a year later. It was the concert on the first day of “Europe #3”. This work recorded at such a show is an amazingly exquisite audience. In fact, this show has been known among core collectors for a long time, but this work is a different first appearance master. The sound is super direct. When you turn up the volume with headphones, you will notice that the real noise of the scene is also being sucked in, but the extremely thick performance sound that completely tramples them is amazing. There is no sense of distance, it is thrust in front of you, and the details are super delicate. In particular, Richie’s guitar is a vivid feeling that you can even feel the unevenness of the pick rubbing the strings. Moreover, it is so close and powerful, but it is amazing because it does not freak out even if the band approaches together. It is a direct sound that you can enjoy with the same feeling as FM broadcasting. It’s said that good things come with many troubles, but unfortunately it is not a perfect recording. First of all, the encore “Smoke On The Water” is not included, but even more so is the opening part. When the performance started with “Highway Star”, the sound was strangely distant and unstable. It improved towards the end of the second song “Strange Kind of Woman”, but the sound was not good for about two full songs. At first I thought it was a recording failure, but it might be due to the on-site PA (it sometimes goes off suddenly, like a bad contact). Of course, that’s the only thing that’s not good about the sound. From “Blues” onwards, it transforms into a superb sound and gives you plenty of fun. Finally, we also checked out the set that you can enjoy with such a close-up sound. Speaking of “Europe #3”, the soundboard album “KNOCK THE TRUCKIN'” is a masterpiece. Let’s organize it while comparing. Classics in Rock: Child in Time/Speed King・Machine Head: Highway Star/Lazy/Space Truckin’・Others: Strange Kind of Woman/Woman From Tokyo/Hush (after reunion)・Perfect Strangers: Perfect Strangers/Knocking at Your Back Door・House of Blue Light: Dead or Alive/Hard Lovin’ Woman (★)・Others: Blues/Difficult to Cure*Note: ★ marks are songs that cannot be heard on the soundboard album “KNOCK THE TRUCKIN'”. Even so, the sound of the first two songs is disappointing. In any case, the pleasure of experiencing “Purple in 1988” with a sense of presence, a precious recording in itself, is irreplaceable. Please enjoy the “THE HOUSE OF BLUE LIGHT Tour” that was not able to come to Japan from a special seat! An excellent audience recording of the “September 9, 1988 Florence performance”. The extremely thick sound is thrust right in front of you without any sense of distance, and the details are super delicate. Richie’s guitar in particular has a vivid feel that you can even feel the unevenness of the pick rubbing the strings. Moreover, it is amazing because it is so close and powerful, yet does not get scared even when the band approaches it as a whole. This is a newly excavated live album where you can experience the precious “1988 Purple” with a sense of presence.
