Description
From the “THE HOUSE OF BLUE LIGHT” tour that DEEP PURPLE performed in 1987, several excellent soundboard sound sources leaked out by related parties have been released, and each has been recognized as a representative sound source of the tour. Many of these are currently sold out or out of print, but this time, it has been decided to re-release one of the masterpieces that was particularly requested to be re-released, with a hybrid full remaster with high-quality audience recording, and to breathe new life into it as a full-length version of the day! Although the previously released “AUTOBAHN” was missing some parts in the middle and latter parts of the live performance, it was highly praised for being able to enjoy the performance in Cologne, Germany during the “THE HOUSE OF BLUE LIGHT” tour with a realistic and easy-to-listen-to line sound source. Initially, the jacket of this work was credited with the date “September 25, 1988” written on the sticker of the original tape, but as a result of verification by enthusiastic fans, and further comparison with the performance content and previously released sources, it became clear that this live performance was recorded on “February 8, 1987”, which was the ninth performance since the start of the 1987 tour. The previously recorded source of this February 8, 1987, titled “RITCHIE’S DREAM”, has traditionally been known as a standard for audience recordings on the same day. Therefore, this time we did not simply remaster the recording, but used this audience take to fill in the missing parts. This work, which realizes the “full-length version of the same day” for the first time among the recordings of the 1987 Cologne performance, should be a fresh delight and surprise for fans who have been familiar with the previously released versions! Since the release of this sound source as “AUTOBAHN”, not only has it been clear with outstanding visibility and sharp contours, but also has an excellent sense of balance that allows you to hear the performances of the members in detail, and the condition of the high-quality material with almost no distortion is also excellent, and the sound quality is already at a level approaching the official live “NOBODY’S PERFECT”. However, this time, we have striven to remove noise more than ever before, and the more polished sound will allow you to experience the amazingness of the sound board sound source recorded by the people involved with the best listening experience. From the opening “Highway Star”, the five members weave the performance with a fire-breathing heat, knocking out the listeners suddenly. Pace’s drums are recorded with a real sound that runs from right to left in the following “Strange Kind Of Woman”, and its presence stands out compared to similar sound sources. In “The Unwritten Law”, even though Gillan is coughing, it starts with Pace’s count, and the intro is out of sync, making the listeners nervous. Even so, it is PURPLE that they immediately correct it. From this time on, Gillan’s voice becomes harder to produce, but as you can hear in “The Unwritten Law”, there are times when it feels like he is forcing himself to sing with a somewhat rough voice even in the original sound source. The first half of the live seems to be painful, but in the second half, he recovers and gives a performance that makes the most of his unique personality. In contrast to the painful Gillan, Richie seems to be in a good mood on this day and plays well from start to finish. It may be because it is a tour in his beloved Germany, but the versatile play with the focus on the performance is wonderful, and the 5th period numbers “Dead Or Alive”, “Perfect Strangers”, and “Hard Lovin’ Woman” can be heard to play outstandingly. In the solo, he weaves in ad-libs such as the German national anthem and shows off small tricks, so it is easy to imagine that the positive performance would have raised the mood of the audience. In “Child In Time” at the end of Disc 1, the original master had two cut points, one in the middle of the 5-minute range and one in the late 8-minute range, but as mentioned above, this was seamlessly superimposed using the audience master from “RITCHIE’S DREAM” to compensate for the naturalness of the sound. “RITCHIE’S DREAM” has been praised by enthusiasts since the analog era as being “easy to listen to in terms of both sound quality and balance,” and by remastering it in line with the line sound source, it blends in within a certain range without impairing the flow of the live performance. Disc 2 starts with “Difficult To Cure,” one of the best performances from the ’87 tour, and features a series of live highlights toward the climax, including “Knocking At Your Back Door” and “Space Truckin’.” In the guitar solo that follows this “Space Truckin’,” Richie’s aggressive solo roars while panning vividly to the right and left channels. Perhaps this further increased their motivation, as in the second half, even the guitar crash, which was rarely seen at this time, came out with a terrifying force that was beyond question! The strength of a high-quality collector’s item like this sound source is that you can hear parts that you can’t enjoy even in the official live performance with exceptional clarity! The encore part of the already released “AUTOBAHN” was only the second half near the ending of “Black Night”, and only a few seconds of the intro of the last song “Smoke On The Water”, but this has also been corrected using the audience source so that you can enjoy the full version. Also, “Speed King”, which was played as the first song of the encore, was completely missing from “AUTOBAHN”, but this has been fully compensated for by the same work. Many people may have felt frustrated by the incomplete content of the already released recording, but here you can enjoy the entire heated live performance until the end! Even in the long history of DEEP PURPLE, the ’87 “THE HOUSE OF BLUE LIGHT” has a somewhat negative impression not only of the work but also of the tour, but at least for the first half of the tour, the interaction between the members was spontaneous and the whole live was fulfilling. This work is the highest quality material that clearly proves that fact with a realistic sound. The performance of the 5th period PURPLE, who were at their peak at the time, has a black luster and shine that makes you think “This is what maturity means!” Ultra-high quality stereo soundboard using the original masters Live at Sporthalle, Cologne, Germany 8th February 1987 STEREO SBD(UPGRADED)(from Original Masters) Disc 1 1.
