Description
From the US tour accompanying his 1984 second solo album “About Face”, the Boston performance on May 25th is completely recorded with an ultra-high quality audience recording. It is a piece called the Master Cassette Direct that has appeared for the first time in recent years, and it is the best version that can be declared to be the best sounding live recording title of the 1984 tour. The main part of the set is the “About Face” number, followed by three songs each of the 1978 first solo and Floyd numbers, making it a well-balanced set. Compared to Roger’s solo albums and live shows from the same period, the more modern and straightforward performances stand out. The solid band performance with Mick Ralph on the side guitar is a great listen from beginning to end. Chris Slade and Jody Linscott’s drum and percussion play strongly drives the whole thing, and the Santana-like percussive play of songs like Blue Light combined with the saxophone and keyboards in an urban atmosphere is reminiscent of Floyd’s traditional style. It is completely different from the sound image, and you can enjoy a truly fresh sound image. On Cruise, which has a gentle melody reminiscent of British rock, Ruff Ravenscroft’s flute solo creates a unique sound world. During the intro to Money, which had a huge buzz in the venue, the sound faded away for a moment, but quickly recovered. In the second half of the disc, each song on the album has been arranged to be nearly twice as long, allowing you to enjoy plenty of original performances only available at this time. You can directly feel the realistic sound image as the venue heats up with the band’s enthusiastic performance of Comfortably Numb. This is the best piece that allows you to experience the charm of Gilmore’s 1984 solo tour, even more than the half-baked official video.
