Description

David Bowie’s debut album, which marked the beginning of his career, was released by the record company Deram. Derham Records was a company founded by Decca Records in 1966 as a label specializing in avant-garde rock, and it ceased to exist in the early 1980s. At the time, Deram was a newly established label and was hungry for talented newcomers, so an unknown newcomer like Bowie was probably given a chance. Their first single “Rubber Band” was released in December 1966, their second single “Laughing Nose” was released in April 1967, and their debut album was released in June 1967. Bowie’s debut album, “DAVID BOWIE LOVE YOU TILL TUESDAY”, released in 1967, was not a commercial success. Later, after Bowie became famous, it was reissued and received a certain amount of acclaim, but it was not talked about at all at the time of its release, and Bowie himself did not sing it live in later years, and the flow of reissues in 1990. Among them, it was not included in the catalog. Bowie himself may not have many good memories of this album. In addition, the third single, “Love Until Tuesday,” was released in July 1967, but as before, it did not become a hot topic at all, and Deram Records gave up on Bowie. In other words, since neither the album nor the single sold well, it was judged that this newcomer had no talent. Deram must have had an intention to sell Bowie to some extent, since he spends a lot of money on production and promotion. In fact, a second album was scheduled for November 1968. This is evidenced by the fact that, at the time, Deram Records listed future release schedules on the inner bags of records, and among them was Bowie’s second album, which was clearly marked and announced. This work is a reproduction of that phantom second album. The last three songs are original versions, not Bowie’s. This inspired Bowie when he was making his second album with Derham, and the Bowie version was scheduled to be included, but these three songs and two songs, “Angel Angel Grubby Face” and “Going Down”, A total of 5 songs are still unreleased and undiscovered. Due to the commercial failure of the first album and three singles, the second album was never released and became a phantom. That is this work “OCCASIONAL DREAMING”. Of course, it doesn’t survive in a properly completed form, and some songs only have demo sound sources, so they were reconstructed in later generations, so I don’t think it was ever planned to be released as is, but in any case You can also feel the atmosphere of the second album from the phantom Deram era, which was shelved without being released. 01.
