Description

The latest work in the “Two Of Us Master” series, which captures the stages of various artists in the United States in the early 1980s, is David Bowie’s Philadelphia Spectrum on July 20, 1983. During the Serious Moonlight Tour in 1983, performances at the same arena were held three times in total, and the sound source recorded on the first day by the “Two Of Us Master” team was released last summer, but this time. will appear on the 20th, the last day. The sound quality is very good, and Bowie’s voice is captured in a fairly large sound image. What adds to its appeal is the tremendous excitement of the day, which is captured in a balance without being sarcastic. Anyway, the excitement has been high since the opening, and it’s almost as if the people of Philadelphia really miss the days they spent at the Spectrum, which was held for three consecutive days. What was miraculous was that even though the venue was so feverish, no one in the audience raised strange voices around the “Two Of Us Master” team. Speaking of the Serious Moonlight Tour, it was impressive that the songs from the big hit album “LET’S DANCE” were more exciting than Bowie’s past numbers, and on this day, the songs from the same album, The title song is “China Girl,” and the finale is “Modern Love.” The excitement is tremendous, and this document realistically conveys how enthusiastically popular Bowie was in 1983. Moreover, since it was the last day of a three-day series of performances, and the first day had been spent filming for the music video for “Modern Love,” Bowie seemed to be literally letting loose as he sang “Cat People.” (Cat People)” conveys this clearly. In the first place, it was after playing Montreal, which is the eternal standard of the American leg of the Serious Moonlight Tour in July, before Philadelphia, so the condition of the band and Bowie cannot be bad. Unfortunately, the “Two Of Us Master” team on this day was recording while pressing the pause button in order to save tape. As a result, I missed the timing for songs such as “Life On Mars” and “Fame,” whose recording start ended up cutting into the intro or the beginning of the song, and for “Golden Years,” I accidentally missed the timing in the arena’s crowded state. There were also cuts that looked like I had touched the stop button. Naturally, cuts between songs occur frequently. On the contrary, it is a sound source that is worth listening to even if you turn a blind eye to those problems. Since there is no purpose of recording video like the first day of Montreal or Philly, it is clear from the sound that Bowie is able to perform freely. The heated excitement at the end of the live performance, “Stay”, is indescribable, and I can safely say that it is one of the best performances of the Serious Moonlight Tour in July. It was also a time when we were blessed with other sound sources, such as Detroit’s “SERIOUS MOONLIGHT TOUR IN DETROIT” released in late July, which reigns as a masterpiece, but even so, we ignored the recording problems mentioned earlier. An audience album that boasts a certain content and sound quality. A masterpiece recording that captures Bowie’s passionate performance and tremendous enthusiasm in an enveloping balance!
