Description
A treasured recording of a Newcastle performance from the European tour in 1983 after the release of the fifth album “Strawberries” has appeared! In 1981, Roman Jag joined the band on keyboards and guitar, and the Damned released their fifth album “Strawberries” in October of the following year. However, during the production of that album, bassist Paul Gray left the band, and on December 31, 1983, a tumultuous time, a treasured recording of a live performance at The Beer Pit in Newcastle, recorded with a good stereo audience has appeared! This recording was previously included in the analog bootleg “I Had Too Much To Drink Last Night,” which was only distributed in small quantities, but this work was recorded from the original low-generation tape source. Because the range is narrow, it is almost mono to the ear, and the sound image is slightly over-leveled and rough, but each part, including the vocals, is well-balanced and recorded with a powerful sound that can be said to be violent. This DVD contains a live performance from 1983, when Paul Gray had left the band and Brian Merrick had joined, as the band members appeared on stage and the audience erupted in cheers. The DVD starts with the single “There Ain’t No Sanity Clause,” released in November 1980, and the set list includes two songs from the album “Strawberries.” It also features the familiar MC5 cover “Looking at You,” “The Hippy Hippy Shake,” the Rolling Stones’ “We Love You,” a cover of the Stooges’ “I Feel Alright” from their debut album, and “Burglar,” featuring Ratt on lead vocals and Captain on drums. This is a complete, uncut recording of a rare live performance from 1983, a turning point for the band.
