Description
CULTURE CLUB in 1984 was at the height of its power, with both albums and singles hitting the charts one after another. The complete version of the iconic pro shot is here. This work was filmed at the “Sydney performance on July 14, 1984”. It is a multi-camera pro shot. This footage was once released on an official DVD as “LIVE IN SYDNEY”, but this work is a copy of it. This show was broadcast live on a local TV station, and this work is a DVD version of the superb air check master. It is the longest and most complete version, including scenes that were cut from the official product version. Before we get into the quality of the show, let’s start with the position of the show. 1984 is also the time when the “COLOUR BY NUMBERS” era and the “WAKING UP WITH THE HOUSE ON FIRE” era switched depending on the time. Let’s take a bird’s-eye view of the activities at that time and explore the position of this work. 1983 February 21st – March 16th: North America #1 (14 shows) March 25th – April 2nd: Europe #1 (8 shows) ← *Amsterdam video June 3rd – 12th: Hong Kong / Japan #1 (7 shows) August 30th – September 11th: North America #2 (9 shows) September 26th: Oxford show (October 10th “COLOUR BY NUMBERS” released) October 20th – November 3rd: Europe #2 (7 shows) ← *Madrid video December 9th – 20th: UK #1 (6 shows) ← *A KISS ACROSS THE OCEAN 1984 March 31st – April 22nd: North America #3 (16 performances) June 20th – 27th: Japan #2 (6 performances) July 5th + 14th: Australia (2 performances) ←★Here★《October 22nd “WAKING UP WITH THE HOUSE ON FIRE” released》 October 25th – November 23rd: North America #4 (20 performances) December 12th – 22nd: UK #2 (4 performances) This is CULTURE CLUB in 1983/1984. “WAKING UP WITH THE HOUSE ON FIRE” was released in October, and the Sydney performance of this work was just before that. In other words, it was the last day of the “COLOUR BY NUMBERS Tour”. CULTURE CLUB is very popular in Australia, but this was also their first landing. Encouraged by their popularity, live broadcast was also realized. This work is the air check. When played, the program opening and pre-show scenes also appear, and the personality stirs up expectations for the upcoming show. As mentioned above, the official product has also been commercialized, but these scenes were cut from the commercial version. The real-time progression that seems like a live broadcast is amazing. The long length alone is a great feeling, but the quality is actually incredible. Although it is clearly an air check from the traces of the program, it is extremely beautiful. It is not at the level of aging or dubbing deterioration, but it is not inferior even when played side by side with the official DVD…or rather, it is better in terms of vivid color. The full show at its climax is depicted with such transcendent visual beauty. The songs played themselves are the same as the official version “LIVE IN SYDNEY”, but they are quite different from the other official video “A KISS ACROSS THE OCEAN”. Finally, let’s organize them by comparison. COLOUR BY NUMBERS (8 songs) Mister Man/It’s A Miracle/Karma Chameleon/Black Money/Church Of The Poison Mind/Victims/Miss Me Blind/That’s The Way (I’m Only Trying to Help You) (★) Others (7 songs) Kissing To Be Clever: Take Control (★)/I’ll Tumble 4 Ya/Love Twist/Do You Really Want To Hurt Me/Time (Clock Of The Heart)/White Boy Others: Melting Pot *Note: Songs marked with “★” were not included in the official video “A KISS ACROSS THE OCEAN”. … and so on. In a word, it’s “a concentrated version of KISSING TO BE CLEVER + COLOUR BY NUMBERS”. “Melting Pot”, which is not included in the album, is a cover of BLUE MINK and was only performed on this tour. Our shop also has a popular 3-disc set of 1983 pro shots, “LIVE 1983 (Uxbridge 2088),” but this is a super rare limited edition song that can’t be seen there either. This is a complete version with plenty of cut scenes, with visual beauty that rivals the official DVD. I can’t believe that such an air check has been sleeping for 40 years… This is a superb piece that will surprise you with the depth of the archive world. A multi-camera pro shot of the “Sydney performance on July 14, 1984.” This is also the official DVD “LIVE IN SYDNEY,” but this work is a complete version of the live broadcast at that time. There are also scenes that were cut from the official DVD only for live broadcasts. What’s even more surprising is the quality. It’s not a level of aging or dubbing deterioration, but it’s not inferior even when played side by side with the official DVD… or rather, it’s better in terms of vivid coloring. This is a shocking cultural heritage in which the full show, which is a concentrated and reduced version of “KISSING TO BE CLEVER” and “COLOUR BY NUMBERS,” is revived in its complete form.
