Description
Following the departure of their then-leader, Wayne Henderson, the band released the album “Free As The Wind,” further enhancing their refined sound and boosting their popularity in Japan. This masterpiece, the first broadcast recording of a live performance from July 17th in Tokyo, has been restored and corrected for inconsistent pitch. The band’s popularity in the 1970s rose beyond the jazz fusion scene, releasing a string of classics including “Scratch,” “Southern Comfort,” “Chain Reaction,” and “Crusader from the South.” Their Japan tour, which garnered significant coverage in music magazines at the time, featured a stellar lineup including Joe Sample, Wilton Felder, David T. Walker on guitar, and Sonny Emory on drums. The performance, captivating audience response, was captivating.
