[The first appearance of the Cream reunion concert that was suddenly brought to us, the best stereo audience master!] There is a release of a secret master related to the heavyweight taper who lives in the UK, who has a good reputation for Eric Clapton sound sources. This time, the heavyweight taper suddenly brought us the best master of the second day performance of the Cream reunion Madison Square Garden on October 25, 2005. “Why now?” I thought, but when I checked with the heavyweight taper, I found out that a friend of the heavyweight taper who lived in the Netherlands at that time really wanted to see Cream, so he flew to New York only on this day and got a CDR of what he had recorded in stereo on his own DAT recorder, but he had forgotten until now. By chance, I found this CDR and listened to it, and noticed that the surrounding audience noise was extremely low and it was completely recorded with the best sound quality, and it was offered to our store. In other words, it is a completely first-time first-generation master that has never been available before. Our staff listened to this master and came to the conclusion that we had to release it immediately. It has been 16 years since then. Cream, whose name remains in rock history, was a band that transformed the “rock” of the time along with Jimi Hendrix, despite only being active for a little over two years from 1966 to 1968. That is why the voices of rock fans hoping for their reunion have been constantly raised since immediately after their breakup in 1968. However, it was Clapton’s will that refused and prevented it from happening for 37 years. For him, who had achieved great success as a solo artist, he thought that a Cream reunion was just a meaningless spectacle that would only return to the past, due to the bitter memories of being caught between the feud between Ginger and Jack at the time, exhausted and worn out, and breaking up. However, in 2005, the situation changed dramatically. Jack Bruce’s health had deteriorated to the point of needing a liver transplant, and his life was in danger. Ginger Baker is currently living in Nigeria, Africa, and his house is on the verge of being seized due to unpaid taxes. Since 2000, Clapton has been looking back on his career and rekindling old friendships with many fellow musicians, so he reached out to his two old friends. And so the reunion concert took place. It first took place in May at the Royal Albert Hall in London for four days. Naturally, many rock fans from all over the world flocked to the Royal Albert Hall. It seems that many fans from Japan also went to watch. Standing on the same stage for the first time in 37 years, they did not look like they were “at war with their instruments” as they used to. It was not a distorted, loud sound. There were three people there, smiling and praising each other from time to time. If we think about it purely from the perspective of “music”, perhaps this was the sound they originally wanted to make and produce. The uniqueness of Cream’s songs and the outstanding skills of the three members. This concert reaffirmed that. [The ultimate master who realistically revives the New York performance, which is different from the London performance] And because this London performance caused such a great response and was very well received, a New York performance was held in October of the same year. Let’s look back on Clapton’s activities this year leading up to the Cream reunion. ・January 15, 2005: Performed and recorded Wish You Were Here with Roger Waters as a charity for “TSUNAMI AID” at the BBC television studio. ・January 22, 2005: Appeared at the “TSUNAMI AID” charity concert in Cardiff, England. ・March 11, 2005: Appeared in a charity show for “Comic Relief” at the BBC television studio. Performed “Reconsider Baby” with Jools Holland’s band. March 14, 2005: Performed with Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Robbie Robertson, and others at the 20th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Concert held at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York. April 8, 2005: Performed with UB40 and Roger Daltrey at the Teenage Cancer Trust charity concert held at the Royal Albert Hall in London. May 2, 3, 5, and 6, 2005: Reunited Cream at the Royal Albert Hall in London. June 11, 2005: Performed with Roger Taylor, Ringo Starr, and others at the charity concert held in Bramley, Surrey, England. August 30, 2005: Released the album “BACK Release of “HOME” >> ・September 3, 2005: Performed with John Mayer at the CNN television studio in the United States for the “Hurricane Katrina Victims Relief” charity, performing “Broken Hearted” ・October 24, 25, 26, 2005: Held Cream reunion concert at Madison Square Garden in New York ←★here★ ・December 31, 2005: Held annual AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) charity concert “New Year’s Eve Dance” If you look at this, you can see that the Cream reunion concert was the main event of the year (all other activities were spot charity-related). In other words, Clapton focused on “Cream reunion” in 2005. For fans, this concert was a dreamlike moment that came true after 37 years. All of them are over 60 years old, and their power to sweep everything away is gone, and their improvisations are shorter, but there is a taste of experience here. All three of them play instruments of different models from those in the Cream era, and their techniques, which could be said to be the culmination of their careers, bring out the best in the songs and fascinate them. Clapton was expected to play the same Gibson-style guitar as in the Cream era at high volume, but he easily betrayed such expectations and played only his signature Stratocaster, which he liked at the time. The volume was appropriate, and the instruments were different from those in the Cream era. This allowed each member’s “flavor” in 2005 to be brought out. All the songs were properly rehearsed, and ideas were included in the set list. Above all, they set up Outside Woman Blues, Pressed Rat And Warthog, and Badge, which they had never played live in the Cream era, and also played Stormy Monday, a blues song that they had played on the club circuit before the formation of Cream. In the intro of this song, Ginger plays the backing with a drum roll. It’s an idea unique to him. In addition, Tales Of Brave Ulysses was set up at this US performance. Clapton’s wah stomping in the aftertaste is exhilarating. Badge also starts with a guitar intro and repeats the break section twice, as Clapton plays in his solo performances, but starts with Jack’s bass and plays only once after the break section, completely close to the original Cream. Clapton played with “Cream” in mind from start to finish. He probably wanted to get that feeling back again. It is said that the reason for the breakup was the feud between Jack and Ginger, and it is said that the two never got along even offstage during the London concert, but at the New York performance after this, they were back to being at odds in the dressing room. However, it was a short performance of only three days. The circumstances around that were not reflected on the stage, and the three performed their best and finished the performance safely. Officially, a live album from the London performance has been released, but of course the sound source of this New York performance is not included. And after this, neither Jack nor Ginger returned. Now it is impossible to reunite Cream. I think it was a good thing that they made it happen at this time. As Cream leaves its name in rock history, there is no doubt that this concert was also engraved in rock history. Although the sound source of the same day has been released in the past, this board contains the best master that appeared in Japan for the first time. I hope you will rediscover “Cream” with this board. Madison Square Garden, New York, NY, USA 25th October 2005 TRULY PERFECT SOUND(from Original Masters) Complete first appearance Disc 1 (52:14) 1.
