This DVD contains a one-hour recording of a duo live performance at a gallery in Brooklyn, New York, featuring drummer Ali Honig, who also backs up Kenny Werner, Jean-Michel Pirc Trio, and crossover artists such as Mike Stern and Richard Bona. He’s not a joke drummer, but he’s a drummer who can play melodies…acrobatic and melodic drumming. His drumming is unique, and the way he handles the rapidly changing rhythms and odd time signatures is impressive. This is the first time I’ve seen it. Potter, the hottest saxophonist right now, is pushed by Honig’s aggressive drumming and plays heavily modally, which is a sight to behold.
