Description
In recent years, the “Mike Millard Tape” has been digitized from direct master or low generation tapes. This tape was recorded by Mike Millard, a taper well known to fans for his outstanding skills in audience recording. The same label has also released several sound sources using this newly digitized Mike Millard tape as the master, but if you look closely, you will notice that there are two types: “Brushed Mike Millard Tape” and “Legendary Mike Millard Tape”. Not all Mike Millard tapes have perfect sound quality, and some have room for improvement with considerable work. The “Brushed” series is one that has been significantly improved through extensive work. The “Legendary” series is one that is close to perfect from the beginning, has little room for improvement in sound quality, and has been kept to a minimum with light editing between songs, etc. This time, we have Chick Corea and his group from the “Brushed” series. Although it is advertised as a master sound source of the Millerd tape, the sound quality is a bit for enthusiasts. It is not for beginners. As much as possible, the album has been remastered by the label. The rhythm section includes Stanley Clarke, Clarke’s longtime friend who has worked with Return to Forever, and Tony Williams, a student of Miles Davis who has also played an active role in fusion bands such as Life Time. The performance here is more jazz-oriented than fusion. Chick’s piano is about half acoustic and half electric. The exotic vocals of guest Al Jarreau are also highly praised.
